Should girls be Allowed?

Recommended Posts

To all the girls, ladies, women and females who visit this section.

There is a group in the process of re-opening a very magical camp. This camp in the 80's, taught kids how to fish and become complete anglers. The 2012 schedule has 2 weekends for Women/Ladies/Girls 21+ and 2 weeks for girls ages (9-12). each week has a 24 angler maximum.

Are there 48 Women 21+ who would have the interest to attend.

Are there 48 Girls (9-12) who would have the interest in learning these skills.

4days 3nights

6days 5nights

Many in the group feel there is no reason to cater towards women.

I completely disagree and would like some "FEED BACK" on the simple question: are there a handful of women and girls in the surrounding 8 state area, that would have interest.

Thanks A ton for your time

I don't see any reason not to have a women"s or a girls only weekend camp. I belong to a Women's fishing club from Wisconsin that has around 80 members and over 300 fans on Facebook. Why should women or girls be excluded from enjoying a fantastic sport? Depending on the particulars, I would be interested.

Thank you so much for replying.

The camp will be a year round camp 11 weeks of kids. Summer Vacation. then offer various programs for adults, from beginner to advanced, walleye, bass, pike, muskie, complete angler,Ice fishing and many more programs. I would hope there would be enough women/girls interested in attending. For now the schedule still has 4 weekend/weeks for women/girls. More info. to follow. Thanks again G

I would be interested. Just got into muskie fishing this past summer and would love some tips. I always fish with my boyfriend and his friends, it would be fun to get away and fish with the girls once in a while.

Just thought I would add this to the chain, we believe in growing the number of women in angling. We are a women's only fishing club that has trips, events, fishing clinics for kids and our annual fishing tournament. I hope we can get some more ladies to join our tournament on June 2nd, it is a blast, see the information below and let me know if you have any questions!

Women Anglers of Minnesota (WAM) was incorporated in 1977 as a way for women to fish together. It remains the oldest active fishing organization for women in the country! Whether you are a long time member or a new member, it is helpful to have information about all the ways you can be a part of this organization.

We are women who like to fish, and we like to spend time with each other, too. Together, we have fun and make a difference in our communities

June 2nd, 2012 Tournament

We hold one annual tournament on the first Saturday in June. The Tournament is open to all women over 16 years old. The tournament is held on a different MN lake every two years.

We rotate the location of our tournaments in order to showcase the bounty of Minnesota’s natural resources. We choose locations based on the following criteria:

• The lake is at least 1,000 acres to accommodate up to 75 boats.

• The community has accommodations for participants and shore crew.

• There is a headquarters (usually a resort) that can accommodate the other needs of our tournament

such as a weighing in area, adequate dock space, portable potties, etc.

• There are banquet facilities nearby.

As an organization that supports Minnesota’s natural resource conservation, our tournament is “catch and release. Prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place of each species, plus a grand prize and multi-species prizes. In addition, there are often “fun tournament” prizes or pre-tournament events.

There is a pre-tournament membership meeting that is mandatory for at least one member of each boat. We also have a post-tournament banquet for all tournament participants, sponsors, and volunteers where prizes are awarded.

I'm 100% with harvey on this: why not? I grew up with a mom who could outfish a very large percentage of the men on this site. Heck, I have no doubt she could teach a lot of fisherman a lot about how to fish! Gals can make excellent anglers and most guys who suggest otherwise are largely just worried about being outfished by a girl.

That being said, if there isn't an adequate supply of gals and you give it a shot and don't fill the spots like you want to, it sounds like you might need to rethink the idea. I hope you give the gals a shot at it and I hope the spots fill up. One thing that can really help our sport in future is support from both sexes, not just from the guys...

Great Idea we Need these girls and ladies to get into this.

Back in the late 80's I was working in the southern sates and when returned from work to our hotel which was late I noticed a bunch of Bass Tournement boats parked at our hotel well I thought i would get up early and introduce myself at the resturant the next morning. Well when I walked in the doors of the resturant to my surprise there was not hardly a guy in the place it was all women and they were members of the Ladies Bass Anglers Trail Tournement.

I had just as much fun talking fishing with those ladies as any guy I ever talked with about fishing.

They were out spreading the word then about women and fishing back then and they did it very well.

Absolutely there should women and girls allowed. My son and I spent 4 days at Camp Fish when he was around 8 yrs old and we both had a blast. He actually won this trip as the grand prize at a kids fishing seminar at a sports show in Rochester and the show sponsor said if I was willing to take the time off work they'd pay half of my way too.

Why anyone would want to deny girls an opportunity like that just doesn't compute. The number of young people that are interested in the outdoors is diminishing rapidly. Spending time with moms, dads, relatives or friends enjoying outdoor activities is priceless. Think about what got you hooked. Usually it was somebody taking you fishing, hunting or camping.

You go girls!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
