Digital or Analog Finders

Been looking into Lowrance vs. Humminbird gps/finders. Lowrance is digital and Hbird is analog. Does this difference mean anything performancewise on these brands?

That's just words Lowrance marketing throws at you to make it sound better. You cannot digitally sample the world: you must do that by some analog means. My guess is that Lowrance uses a different pulse shape but really that doesn't make any difference as the key is the signal strength of the return and the time it takes to come back (both analog values). Then every single electronics maker uses an AtD and processes the information digitally.

Thanks for the info.....my buddy bought into the whole analog-digital thing and yup....he bought the Lowrance...My monsy is going to be on the one that's easier to use with good customer service.

I find the GPS a bit better on the Birds, but the HDS clearly way better on the graphing and imaging....
