LINE POUND WEIGHT FOR DIPSEY DIVERS

I have been using 20 lb test PP for even the larger dispseys but I'm due for a line change and want to know if I should go up to thirty or fourty pound test?

I have lost a couple of dipseys on the 20 but it could have been a bad knot.

Also, who likes the higher visibilty colored power pro?

I run 30# pp for my dypsie rods and haven't had any issues. I prefer the Moss green over the hi vis although I don't think it would matter much when running a mono leader off the dypsie.

I run the same set up and have only lost one dipsey when I went to pop it. I'm 90% sure it was fouled as it was a clean cut.

I've thought about upping to 40 lb but haven't moved that direction yet. The mag dispeys pull hard but even the wire guys are pulling 30# test so why make the jump.

I tend to run the 30# PP because of the line diameter. I can use my salmon rods to fish boards and or longline troll and know that the diameter makes the dive curve a bit more predictable. I have enough other stuff to work freshwater but the longer rods are nice for running boards and longline troll and still stay in the depthcurve for the trollers bible which makes a 3-6 time a year rod valuable for spring and fall trolling apps. I haven't lost many dypsies to fish, more often it is to "human error" then to a fish so I like to have my setups so I can troll the St. Croix, Miss and still use them for Superior and Lake michigan without the extra investment of running heavier line or respooling with the lighter line. Just a thought but since I have the money invested I may as well use the rods and line as much as I can wink makes momma happy too!
