Auger question

pikerliker

Question

This may be a dumb question but that's never stopped me before.. I have a Strikemaster Mag 2000 8 inch auger that is about 10+ years old (still running great I may add). It came with a chipper blade. My question is could I buy a different auger attachment with a regular cutting blade and use it without causing problems to my auger, or would that cause problems with the motor as it came with a chipper blade? I was just looking to speed up my hole drilling without buying an entire new setup.

Thanks

all strikemaster drill units are interchangable except for the new dual blade chipper on the big volt. I run a 1991 MagIII and it came with the chipper. last season I switched to a lazer drill unit. switching will not affect your powerhead. the only thing about the lazer unit is that if you are on dirty ice your blades will dull faster. lazers can also get knocked out of pitch if you hit a hard item in the ice (ie : rocks or other garbage).

Yes the only difference between your mag 2000 and the Lazer express at that time was the cutting head. The Lazer will cut much faster. The mag was better for dirty ice and redrilling but cuts much slower. Actually the new Dual blade chipper that comes on the Big volt is offered for any of the gas drills as an accessory on the strikemaster HSOforum. Highbanks resort on Winni is using this auger on their Strike Lite II's that they use to re open their houses without any problems.

Brad I have both the old Mag III and the Mag 2000. Did you say the new dual blade chipper from the volt will Not fit on them? frown

It may have changed but I read either on their HSOforum or someplace else that the dual chipper drill unit was made strictly for the big volt and then later I seen another thing that said the dual will only work on the solo motors. now if you look at their site under power auger parts they do list them and don't have no special notes. I guess before spending any money to get one I would call or email them to find out forsure. personally I don't see much difference between a single chipper blade or a dual step chipper blade. would the performance be that much different. I have only had the single chipper style before upgrading to the lazer.

I looked at their site and the dlb chipper just looks like a singal split in two. I was kind of hoping that they actually made a drill end with two chippers on each side of it! frown

I did do a little test one time by stacking two chipper blades one on top of the other on my drill end and it cut ice like no tomorrow but I thought that it was going to rip my arms off when I got down to breaking through at the bottom of the ice. I just wish S/M would come up with a little more aggressive blade for the chipper that was a little more like the Jiffy! wink

The dual blade is the same head that the big volt uses. Look on strikemasters HSOforum under specials. They sell one that is painted black that can be used on solos. It is exactly the same just different color. Pretty sure they say solo only because of the speed that they turn. I know for a fact that Highbanks on winni is using the dual blade with the red auger on strike light 2's. Because I talked to them while they drilled us some holes. They said that combo worked great. I would like to add the strike lite is 1.6 HP so if they can run on that auger. They will work on anything strikemaster makes.k

I bought a new 8" Big Volt last Friday that had the double staggered blade head. It would not cut so I took the 10" chipper of my Strikemaster gas and it cut like a dream. I called Strikemaster Monday and they are sending me a single blade cutter to put on my existing auger. I did not ask if they were having trouble with the double blade design but assumed being they were sending the single to replace it.
