PurpleFloyd
Well, I just found out that my Polaris RZR has been reclassified from a class 2 to a class 1. I do a lot of riding in the farm country and I used the RZR to travel the gravel roads around my relatives farms and now with the reclassification I am limited to the ditches and you can't ride the ditches in the ag zone which renders it useless to me.So it looks like I am going to have to trade it for a different UTV like the Ranger, Gotor, Teryx,Rhino etc.Does anyone own any of the above? And if so what do you like or dislike about it? I am probably leaning towards a Deere because I have a customer who is a dealer only 6 miles away. bdafisher
If you are trading in a RZR you are probably going to want something that handles as nice and is snappy. Ranger and Teryx would be my top two choices on that list for that.
landscaper
the new gator 825i has a lot of snap i think. Also JD is coming out with (i think) a 850 gator that goes 53 and is kinda intended towards the RZR. But i am not 100% sure on that but well see. PurpleFloyd
Thanks for the replies.I originally went with the RZR due to the advantages it had here in southern Minnesota in terms of being able to travel on gravel roads plus it was legal to ride on the trails between Iron River and Ashland,Wi where my wife is from and be able to take my son along for the ride. I guess at this point I am getting to the age where the performance is becoming less important by the year and I am thinking having a bigger box to be able to build a dog box for my Springers has more value. I also will use it for plowing in the winter and for traveling on the lakes pulling my sled and gear. I do see there are bench and bucket type seats. It seems the buckets would be way more comfortable than the bench type and you wouldn't slide around as much. Any opinions?
ortonville
i have a RZR havent heard a thing when did this come about?
PurpleFloyd
It just changed this year. I found out when I got my license back and it was for a class 1.Quote:All-terrain vehicles (ATVs)Class 1 ATVs are motorized flotation-tired vehicles with at leastthree but no more than six low pressure tires that have an enginedisplacement of less than 1000 cubic centimeters and total dry weight ofless than 1000 pounds. *Class 2 ATVs are motorized flotation-tired vehicles with at leastthree, but no more than six, low pressure tires that have an enginedisplacement of more than 1000 cubic centimeters and total dryweight of 1000 to 1800 pounds.*Dry weight is normally the weight of the vehicle without fluids. Dave
Page 9 may help your current situation...ATV dual public and private use registration• Some circumstances require ATVs to be registered for both public andprivate use. If an ATV is used for agricultural purposes on road surfaces, aprivate use registration is required. If the same ATV is also used on publicland or frozen water, both public and private use registrations are needed.

riverwader
The law was the same last year. My 2011 RZR is licensed as a class 1 from last may. I was actually stopped by the DNR on the 4th of July in Paul Bunyan state forest and he basically stated that "you and I both know polaris isnt stating the truth on weight". He said no DNR officer will say a word if you are driving on the shoulder or on the gravel. He wanted me on the side of the road instead of the ditch. I stated the tag says Class 1 and that is what the state say so I will follow the law for class 1. If you are worried about it you could upgrade to a RZR S or a RZR XP they are both class 2. magnum mike
I have a 700 Ranger XP and wouldn't have any other SxS. I got because of the bench seat. It is very comfortable, will seat 3 adults and is much more versitle than the buckets.
LipRipper!!
Purple Floyd, I now have a Polaris Ranger 800xp and use to have a Yamaha Rihno. The reason I switched to the ranger was the bench seat, that way my wife and daughter could ride along safely and have had no problem with staying put. I have also noticed that the ranger is much quieter (you can actually have a conversation at mid to high speeds)than the rhino and seems to ride smoother than my old Rhino. Also a few more acessories for the Polaris line than Yamaha. I do miss the engine breaking system that my Rhino had though. I am sure all brands have their good and not so good points but are quality machines. Drive them all, and if you decide to purchase a new ride Good Luck!! coombia21
I would look into the can-am commander. This thing is snappier than the rzr. It also is classified as a class 2. I rode in one at our red lake trip this year and all I can say is wow.

PurpleFloyd
I have a client who works at the local JD dealership that hired me to remodel their kitchen a few months ago so I think I am going to check out the gator and see how I like them. My current client has one of the 825's and likes it alot so I might be trending that way.
