Why Crappie is my favorite fish to Ice Fish for.

1. You can catch them on about any bait with some regularity. (Plastics, Spikes, waxies, Minnows, & etc.)

2. They can grow to a size between 8-15 inches commonly which makes for a nice slab vs. having just 9-10inch Blue Gill on the large side.

3. There mouth can open far and wide like a bass and take a decent size bait.

4. They'll hit a minnow like a walleye.

5. You can commonly site fish for them.

6.It's not uncommon to catch a mess of them.

7. You can find them from shallow to deep water.

8. They are commonly a bonus fish when targeting other fish.

9.They are tastey like a perch.

10.They can make small ponds worth fishing.

I was up on mille lacs two weeks ago with 12 other guys, and someone looks at me and says "Have you ever heard of shad rap" I didn't know how to respond...like what fisherman hasn't, and he says, "No, its a band"...Needless to say, we were all quite tuned up and they played this song, it was quite funny.

I like crappies because they are abundant, to find big crappies can be a challenge but very rewarding!

i like that they put up decent fights mouths are big enough that i dont have to buy small tiny jigs and hooks and just use my spring summer jigs plus there tastey and just a blast, but i have yet to see the day i catch them ice fishing, only landed one this year waiting for spring time to get more

I think you hit it on the head reinhard, thats what we were fishing for when my grandpa brought me with for the first time and its the same thing with my daughter when the time comes.
