big bore rifle 375 HH ?

Recommended Posts

375 H&H is an African safari grade caliber, If you are looking at staying in North America and want a big hole puncher you should look at the 338's or the 325WSSM. If you do stick with the 375 you will be looking at mostly high end guns, which there is not a bad one, unless you find something like an old Mauser that someone has rechambered.

Thanks figured just looking at getting a new gun something little bigger diam for bear, moose elk etc I realize its over kill and a 30-06 etc can do it just want new gun and I have the common or even few uncommon rounds. I don't have anything bigger size than 30 cal ( besides muzzle loader) and looking into and wanted opinions 375 is listed a lot when I looked at calibers for sale.

Thanks

weatherby is know for some outstanding rifles in custom mag calibers

I still would love to build a Norma 30-308 or a 30-378 for big game I have the gun do possibly start with but its getting all the other stuff paid for first before this project starts I'm starting with the Remington mod. 721 bolt action as a strting platform and I'll see where that leads me.

but I'm a long ,long ways from starting other than owning the 721

I have an old Model 70 .300 H&H that I inheritted from my uncle. My experience is that even the .300 a lot more than you would need in this country. I would also suggest that you check out availability and cost of ammo as part of your research. Ammo for my .300 H&H is not always easy to find and every time I pull the trigger, it costs me about $3.50!

Maybe not what you are looking for, but a .338 Federal is a bigger diameter cartridge that isn't a magnum. I've heard pretty good things about it, and think it would be a sweet deer or bear gun for MN. Definitely not in the same class as the 375 H&H, but I'm just throwing it out there because I like talking guns!

How does that 30-378 feel when you pull the trigger??

Looking into sakko black bear or kodiak rifle (open sites kinda like that) , they have the bigger calibers. The laminate Tikka is not avail in the usa only international bums me out realty like the look not thrilled with synthetic stocks, but still not sure.

Just read that the two lions that were the basis of the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness" were killed by a plain old .303 enfield.

Only recommendation I have is be sure you can shoot it COMFORTABLY and ACCURATELY.

Have fun sighting in!
