Marcum LX7

Anyone out there buy the new LX7 yet? I'm thinking of upgrading from the LX5 to the LX7, and want to know if folks out there are doing the same as well.

We had a demo on a recent trip and used it briefly....there was a reason we used it briefly...I would wait another year until they get the bugs out of it....

I love mine, will get even better once updates are avalible... Nothing wrong with a 5 though good solid unit, I own both and wouldn't trade either....

That's exactly my experience as well. Very high potential of being a gamechanger, but the unit / software I had were less than "gamechanging". The bottom constantly flickered as if a fish may be coming in. This was two nights in a row over firm bottom / no weeds. My FL-18 showed solid red bottom. The jigs also appeared chunky and flickered alot as well. Not as clear as the FL-18, or LX5. I changed / adjusted all settings (ping speed, sensitivity, zoom level, ect, ect). Never got the flasher to show info as clearly as a vex / lx5. The "showdown" vertical screen, I'll have a hard time using ever. The graph screen is cool.

... but for the $$$, I'll wait til they all have the updated software in the new ones. I took mine back after only a couple of outings. Alot of negative (and plenty of positive) reviews on other sites as well (chunky / flickering flasher screens). The fact that these units are requiring software upgrades this soon after release tells me they hurried to get these out and we're acting as the R&D. Unless they are gonna pay me to report / tell em what's wrong, I'll wait til they get bugs worked out as well. Kind of like buying an expensive, high grade SS knife that came out of the box dull. I'll wait til the "sharpened" units come out standard. good luck.......

I've got an LX-7 with the first version of the software and am liking it more and more all the time, as I've learned what works for me and what I like. It has taken some getting used to.

Sounds like there will be a new version of the software before too much longer, which cleans up and corrects a lot of the things guys are complaining about. Am looking forward to that.

As far as software updates go ..... it's a part of software ..... and a good thing. My Windows and my virus protection software updates frequently. Lowrance and Humminbird have frequent software updates. The ShowDown has had a couple versions of updates. I like updating software to get improved performance and new features......

I like being able to improve / add performance to my electronics as well, but I feel as though Marcum pushed these units out the door without little to know real R & D (on the water). For that kind of $$, there shouldn't be alot of little issues to clean up right out of the shoot. "Upgrades" shouldn't "clean up" issues / bring them up to where they should be out the door.... they should add to / improve, IMO. I'm not bashing Marcum, but will wait til the bugs are worked out to get another "7".

I'm sure we all have gotten the latest, greatest laptop or computer that needed updates soon after to fix issues.....Even my new tv needs frequent updates....

I have had an LX-7 for a couple of weeks now and love it. Being able to have my zoom, full screen flasher, and a graph mode to show history on screen at the same time has been awesome to say the least. It's a great unit for the way I fish, and being able to adjust what is on screen for what I am fishing is very helpful

Yep, not bashing Marcum either but goose is right on the money...they rushed it to market and hoped for the best. All of us on the demo run have LX5's and wouldn't trade them for anything. I think the thing will be great when they get it right. It seems a little fragile for me, and I would have liked to see how it ran in the usual January extreme cold of Ontario.

I just got a screaming deal/offer on all marcum units and was thinking about the lx7 but my orginal plan was to wait until this fall to take up on the deal. Like all new things it always a year or so for the company to fix all the bugs.

On a side note, not trying to steal the topic but how are their underwater cameras.
