FL-8 cant find bottom??

MNmikew

Question

This year my flasher decided it would no longer find the bottom. All I get is blips all over the screen. Even with gain maxed. Is my Vexi finally toast or is there something I can do to try to fix it. I've heard of cleaning brushes but now sure how to do it.

How old/charged is your Battery? My fl-8 does wierd things when the battery is not in top shape. I had issues and bought a new battery and things got a lot brighter and clearer for me. I have heard about the brushes causing issues as well. Not sure how you clean them tho. Could also be a bad transducer as well.

I agree with the battery deal, if you have access to a proven battery, try that first. I've seen this and experienced it on a couple of occasions.

If not, I had problems with mine before and I sent it to the company and they fixed 'er up for me for a good price! That was the only time I had problems with my Vexilar.

Thanks guys. The battery is pretty old but seems to charge up OK. I will pick up a new one tonight and see if it helps. Thanks again.

Is there someplace in the cities (north preferred) that I could take it to?

Check your transducer by turning it on and put the gain about 1/3 and see if you get a good return when you hold it above the floor about 3-5'. Raise it up and down to see the mark.

If you get no mark at all, then you need to replace your transducer. Barrow a different transducer too see if there is a difference!

Good Luck!
