It seems that this type of high grade plastic doesn't get any cheaper. Just look at the cost of hyfax for a portable fishhouse. Also remember that $15.00 of that is shipping which seems a bit high. Doesn't make the pill any easier to swallow. What caused it to break?

Call Strikemaster first. They did have a batch or the early plastic handles that had air bubbles in the plastic and would break. If you can prove that you have one of those, then it likely will be free.

I leaned it up against the house while I opened the hinged hole cover. Tipped over and hit the floor.

I really like the strikeaster augers as well as their customer service but they really should go back to those metal handles...how much are they really saving in weight and the cost "has" to be cheaper.

Only if they fell out of the back of a pickup truck! Every time I use mine in below zero weather I just stare at it wating for it to break! If someone was really handy at casting aluminum they could make some good cash selling nonbreakable replacements! I would buy one!

a guy at gander mtn told me they offer a set of metal handles. he said they are alot heavier than the plastic ones. if you havent had a set of plastic ones in your hands you wouldnt realize how light they are, i dont think aluminum would compare.

i would call strike master and make a rule that your auger doesnt ever lean against anything again.

Not to push any buttons but, blaming strikemaster for operator error wont solve anything, there is stands on the handle for a reason

I think the majority of Strikemaster customers like the plastic handles.....I for one know that I wont buy a jiffy Because it has metal handles, I want my auger LIGHT and FAST.....lol

I have a complete powerhead with all good components that I will sell cheaper than that. Handles are perfect, fuel tank and rewind are all in great shape. Only problem is it is seized up tighter than a drum!

do you have like cleaning slush out of your holes too? if nils had a decent auger i would have one. there cutting head is great. if the auger matched the cutting heat size it would be a top notch ice auger.

No problems with slush, just rev it a little after breaking through and cleans it out well....When hole hopping I drill 20-30 holes and fish them as I drilled them only carry a scooper if the holes are icing back over....

This is exactly how it should be done.... any hole can be made slush free with any power auger if you drill it out correctly.

As you are breaking out at the bottom of the hole... give it a rev right before you remove the auger from the hole. The extra rpms will flush out the slush.. but you will need to make sure you have waterproof boots on.

I don't even carry a scooper anymore with me as I am drilling.

I'm dealing with a broken Strikemaster plastic handle right now.. but haven't had the time to actually take the auger apart to replace it...

Let me just say.. that it does not appear to be as simple a task as one would think... there are a bunch of things that need to be taken off from the old handle and re-installed onto the new one. You will also need to get your hands on a set of "star" or "torque" style keys to take off the bolts.

Besides being light, it's nice using the plastic handles with bare hands. Metal gets too cold to use with bare hands and gloves can be a pain in the butt.

Learned that trick with my Nils a couple years ago. Hardly ever have to clean out the holes. Love this mine is better than yours stuff.

Actually, replacing the handle is very easy. Just simply take out the hex bolts and unscrew the throttle handle and out comes the old and in with the new. I also had to learn the hard way. Super light handle I wouldn't trade for a metal one.

As far as the cold on hands go...a good 'ol fashion bike handle bar grips can take care of that for you!
