Humminbird 788ci

Huskie

Question

I picked up this new 'bird 788ci for a price that was in my budget. What are the pro's and con's of this unit. I noticed that it had some pre loaded maps, I fish Winnie and the surrounding lakes mostly, what other map chip should I pick up for it. Thanks much.

The shaded depth feature is great but I think exclusive to the Lakemaster and Humminbird combination. In other words' date=' return that Navionics card and get a Lakemaster Minnesota card. [/quote']

Shaded depth works with Navionics also.

I bought a 788 last year, wanted it for the driver area, I don't have a bow mount depth finder, and don't want to hassle with having to set up one on the bow anyway. Here's what I did. I have a Fishawk 1750 driver counsil only, so on the inside side of drive counsil I put on a big Ram Mount that swivels and turns to front and also pivots 360 degrees to(any) driver position. Really cool easy set up. Also the 1750 has such a small dashboard windshield area that you can't even fit the bigger depth finders in there. So this was a neat versatile solution. Just an idea for you since on limited budget. Thx.

Which model Ram Mount? Thinking of doing the same thing. Do you have a photo?

I think I'm going to the cabin this weekend and i'll try to snap a pic. It's about 6 to 8 inches long with a pivot ball on mount on side of counsil and pivot ball on the underside of depth finder mount plate if I remeber correct. Works really slick.

I have a 788ci mounted on the bow of my boat. Wondering if anyone has adapted this for an ice fishing unit.

Mostly I want to have a gps unit with my LM chip in for ice fishing. But also if anyone has connected it to a transducer and used as a ice flasher. I know the flasher mode on it isn't the best. But would love to use the gps feature, without shelling out more dough for a handheld gps unit, I want to see if I can adapt a summer toy for ice season too.

And yes I use Navionics for iPhone, but accuracy isn't the best.

Sorry folks. Found my answer.

Thanks to MuskieJunkie from a different HSO post.

Parts needed are. Hint: look elsewhere online for pricing deals. Especially that long river in South America. HB retails there much cheaper.

XI 9 20 - Ice Ducer - $68

MS M - Mounting Bracket - $30

PC 10 - Power Cord - $17

PTC U - Carrying case and battery - $74
