Gordie
First off what are you implying For me anytime spearing is an ideal time but thats a cop out I know I like when it is bright and sunny out with a high pressure front moving in. Or a bright sunny day just after a snowfall is great IMO But that doesnt mean the pike will be acti ve all those times I have spear my share on cloudy days and really windy days too. So I guess my cop out isnt such a cop out cause if your spearing and the pike are there so are you. You can't spear a pike if your not there to spear it. Dorkfish
yes true but is it worth it to go out when its gusting of 50mph lol.and i have sources telling me you've been spearing since you were a kid so i figured you might have the best intel on this

Spike76
Weather is kind of uncontrollable. If you can go every day, you can go when the weather is suitable. If you have a permanent house the wind isn't as bad as a portable. I've seen portables blowing across lakes, and I've seen them laying along shores. If I only have one or two days I will fish in the wind. When you least expect it, your fish of a lifetime could appear. I eat plenty so when it is windy I don't blow away. Laska
Personally I've speared in all weather and I haven't seen much of a difference, I base it on bait selection and location, location I believe is the biggest factor and I believe pike have "highways" if your off on location by even 30ft sometimes less it makes a huge difference in the numbers u'll see. Just my 2 cents hope it helps. One thing I have noticed about weather tho is they seem to move better when my barometer rises over 30 or drops drastically. Gissert
I'm with Laska here. Some of the best runs I've seen is on the leading edge of a storm front when the barometer tumbles. That has been fairly consistent in my experience, but not a hard and fast rule. That is the one time where I will re-arrange my schedule to be out there. Otherwise, I get out when the mood strikes me and time permits - Seat time in the dark house is its own reward for me.
BehindtheHead
best spearing i have had on my favorite lake is right before and durring a snow storm. after a snow storm they usally stop moving for awile.i angle alot too so when its nicer outside i angle and when its brutally cold i tend to go spearing and sit in a nice tosty shack. I've even heard of a large 2 man permanent spear house blowing over one time !
Spike76
Hey dogfish, why not make some new memories spearing so you don't have to live in the past? Spearing has been great, you should bring the little dogfish up and do some spearing. The conditions have been great up there. I've got two spear houses out and I will let you use them. Bowfin
Thanks for the offer - trying to find the time. Any crappie action on the old upper lake this year?
Spike76
Because of poor ice I haven't checked it out yet, but I heard they weren't biting.
