They were showing them taking the 4wheelers off the ice on the news tonight by boats.

seems like if I was a rescue person I would be ok with rescuing people.

YES that is REALLY what I would do!! The last option is to call emergency personal when I am not in any real danger!! Granted it is an odd situation but after assesing the situation and remembering that I am now on a 1000+ acre of floating ice about 10" thick that in reality will not float too far away I would have been calling a friend or 3 to come out there and if needed they could be there in the morning because I would have had to come back and get my gear anyways...maybe it is just me

Ozzie, I wonder in this case if they would have allowed you to stay on the ice overnight. Once the rescue squads have been sent, I would think they would want all people off of the ice. They had a helicopter overhead with spotlights so they would have probably made you leave the ice via boat or hovercraft at that time.

I sure would have to look over the situation for a long time before I decided to get rescued out there....in that I mean I would have looked for every way possible to get off and then I would still pop holes and fish till the next morning to see if conditions changed before I left my gear and paid to get off the sheet of ice....in fact I probably would try to make my house into a boat and paddle across the gap before I left my stuff. Obviously I was not out there but I know the lake and have seen the images and I would think with a long maybe very long walk one would think they would find a way off the lake.

I don't understand why anyone would want to stay on a chunk of floating ice any longer then they had to. I would be carpping my pants in that situation.

Last time I was up there there were still some four-wheelers sitting across the crack waiting to be picked up by their owners. I'm sure they'll eventually get them....it can't stay this warm forever, can it?!?
