I am looking into buying my first flasher I have read on here really good reviews on the ICE 35. Just wondering what peoples takes are on this would this be a good first unit or would you reccommend the FL-8 or FL-12 or FL-18? I am looking more towards a used unit since I dont want to spend the amount that the new ones are. Let me know what your opinion would be on them. Whats the main difference between the Humminbirds, Marcums, & Vexilars?

Yes there are plenty of threads regarding this same topic. Each one will give you an opinion as to which is better, but they all do the job. My answer to your question is get what you can afford. My personal opinion is Vexilar. I have never had issues in the 20 years of owning their products and I have enough confidence to say I likely won't have any issues in the next 20...

I have a vex (fl8 slt) and bird (45), I love my bird but they all do the same, My post is the same as the previous ones....buy what you can afford and one is better than nothing. Shop around, compare features, but you will always hear mine is better than his.

Last night my bird and my buddy's vex got just as many as each other but out fished the other 3 in our group 10:1, it does come down to patience, technique and some luck but no matter what you buy, you will improve your fishing.

MJBaldwin,

No one is going to walk across that lake, take a look at you flasher, and say "why in the hell did you buy that brand"! Just look at what is out there and find one you can afford and are comfortable with. In 3 years you will probably upgrade so having something now is much better than nothing when it come to fishing with a flasher. Once you fish with it you will think why didn't I do this sooner. Regardless of the brand it makes a world of difference.

If you're buying new, the Ice-35 from HB or the VX-1Pro from Marc are going to give you the best performance and best features for the best price. Nothing wrong with Vexs, but with the models you're talking about you'll pay more and get less with the Vex.

As stated, they all work well and do what they're supposed to do, you just have to pick between the features and models that are best for you.

I have had the fl-8 which was stolen out of my truck at a gas station. I now have the VX-1. I like the vx1 better. it seems to pick things up a little better than my vex did. they are very similar though. Marcum does have a deal that you can get a 50 gift card if you buy a vx-1p. which gets you around 250.00 new. if you were to buy the fl-8 though you wouldn't be disappointed. If you can find a good one on c-list go for it. They all do a better job than a depth finder weight. Good luck with your search.

I just picked up a ICE-45 for a new view of the underwater world. I have an fl-20 also but I find its not nearly as easy to use or as accurate as the new ICE-45. However I have noticed that the 45 display is only readable when its pointed right at you unlike the fl-20 where you can see it no matter what angle the screen is pointed. I would really push for the Humminbird right now because of the rebate available before the end of Dec. Vex's also don't have the same ability to avoid interference. I was told that the Humminbird units run on a different frequency and do not have problems around the Vex's or Marcums. Don't quote me on that, as it may have been a sales pitch, but last weekend was the first weekend I was able to turn on my FL-20 and ICE-45, and not have problems with the other flasher causing problems for my vex. my .02

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
