How do you want your helemt to fit?

I like mine snug not too tight that its squeezing the snot out of your head. Tight enough that its comfortable and not moving around while riding. Accept my motocross helmet it fits nice every where accept my cheeks, the padding is so thick there it squeezes my jaw a little more than I like.

I'm not kidding when I say this. Wear it for an hour or so. If your head hurts after an hour it's too small. You don't want it so loose that it will bounce around if you hit something but too tight can give you a nice headache after a day of riding.

I always refer to that as "helmet head". Even the right size helmet can feel that way after a couple hundred miles on the trail. wink

That said, a comfortable helmet that fits snug enough to not move around on your head, but loose enough to slide on without a lot of tugging is good. I normally try on a helmet with a full face stocking hat on and get it snug, then with the hat off its just right for me.

That way I can wear a neck gator for the majority of riding, but I can still fit a hat on if its really cold.

They do loosen up a little.

A new large would be a little snug on me and a broken in Med would fit.

Like Frank said, they will loosen up with use. Put it on and run you head into the wall a few times and see if that works! It should compress the padding a bit! You have to wait for the swelling to go down for a day or so first! laugh
