Whats up with my heater?

Recommended Posts

Only have low and high speed fan after changing the resistor block in the blower moter on my 2003 v-6 sport trac. Now I have cold and torn fingers and only slightly better heat out of my truck,What did I miss?

1.fuse is good

2.resistor replaced

3.clean up the connections

I am at a loss?

I had high speed only,so that is why I changed the resistor[problem and solution right?]....but the problem is still[partially] there, and now I am back too the drawing board with only a two speed[not four] fan

one thing that looked funny is all the rust on the old resistor, sits right next too the air conditioner 'canister' and I know there is always condensation in that area,,,,so maybe I am fighting that as well?

May even need to replace the plug that plugs into the resistor. Mine went out on my Chevy this spring and I also replaced the plug while I was at it because it had started to melt and corrode.

Caman, has a good point, its common for the plugs to get burned terminals. But if you cleaned the connections you should have seen them if they were burned, or maybe the slight possibility that you got a bad resistor..

What ussaully takes out the resistor is the blower motor. If the connector at the resistor is good check the switch, if those are both ok you may have smoked the new resistor due to a bad blower motor.

But the blower motor works. Yes it will but it has to much resistants and smokes the resistor.

Odds are if it works on low and high it is the connection at the resistor.

I think you where on the right track with the resistor. Since low speed uses all the resistors to drop voltage to/from the blower to get the lowest speed we would assume that the resistor that was installed is o.k. If there was a burnt resistor than low speed would not work.

That leaves you with the connection or the switch. The switch is pretty easy to figure out. You will need either a test light or volt meter. If you have either let me know and I'll let you know how to check the switch.
