TroutYammer
Anybody have a preferences of the shiny stainless steel or for black coated darkhouse spear? Or does it not make a difference?

Kraemer_Spears
Makes no difference I even used a chrome spear and had no problems but you will find many that think it matters had somone tell me once the fish will get spooked even by the brass inlay on my barbs. Spike76
I use stainless spears usually, but on a sunny afternoon I've spooked northerns getting the spear over the hole. I've blamed it on the shiny spears. It also could be the shiny ice around the hole, reflecting the spear entering the hole. It's a good excuse for when you spook one. Usually there is no problem. I also have a John Deere and a Farmall.
MJ1657
I won't be painting it. I can't wait for it to get some natural patina.
ninakawawa
I go old school: Everything is black. Clothes, house, spear. Its the little details sometimes.
drakerebel
which ever color give you confidence my friend. i personally like black but not due to performance reasons...just like it.
ninakawawa
This is just my opinion. But if anyone has ever spent anytime on a stage with bright lights the audience is dark. Just like a darkhouse. What shows up in the audience? Glasses, shiny objects. If someone wears dark clothes they are almost impossible to make out. Now if the spear is over a northerns back it doesn't really matter much. But if that fish happens to look up before entering the whole and it picks out a shiny object it may just bolt. But like you say its just a matter of what you like I just don't take chances.
