Figured I'd post this down here too.

I have very good news about the High Def maps for LOW on the Mobile Navionics App. I sent Navionics a question why the North chip had the HD contours for LOW, but the Mobile application did not. Here is their response.

Todd,

Thank you for contacting Navionics. The Navionics Mobile application is a combination of both the Marine database and the HotMaps freshwater database. There are some areas that are duplicated on both types of charts such as Lake of the Woods. Currently the default view is the Marine database. This is going to be changed this month. Unfortunately I do not have a specific time-frame but at the end of the month, beginning of next month reload the map for the area and please advise me if you do not see this change.

Good to hear we will see the return of LOW.

Hey, look at the screenshots caman posted above. Notice how many fewer numbers there are. While maybe this isn't a big super common problem but I noticed places on the Minnetonka map where there were a boatload of contour lines but little or no numbers.

Hmmm...

I wish you had more choices in safety depth settings on these apps. I suggested they improve that by making them in 5 foot increments.

My new Lakemaster chip lets you highlight shallow water RED and do it in 1 foot increments. That ought to save a prop or two... I bet Navionics will do something similar very soon.

FYI there is an update in the market right now. It looks like it fixes the map overlay issue and it also gives you the option to display track up instead of just north up. They also give you the option to delete lakemaps from your device.

Apparently when I fired-up Ice Cream Sammich' on my phone and re-downloaded the program I got the update. Caman, go to your view of the Namakan/Wolf Islands and turn on Satellite overlay. See how the deeper water and contour lines get covered by satellite image. The fix keeps the numbers with overlay but seems to open a new issue (maybe just on border waters?).

Dtro: The screenshot above is from after the update. There just aren't any numbers there...

So the VNP lakes work now?

They seem to be. If you look at the screenshots on this page you'll see that the contour lines are not very smooth. Personally I think it makes the maps harder to read. That and there seem to be a lot less numbers, text, and markers for things like rocks.

Have a look at the screenshot above that shows a part of Minnetonka with no numbers at all. I'm finding lots of areas with many contour lines and few numbers. No way I could keep track of things when bobbing around in my little boat.

Several of the screenshots above are from Namakan so you can get and idea of what to expect. Oh, don't expect tight contours on the Canadian side.

I still prefer the maps in the old app. The new app has some features that are really nice though.

Hopefully the maps are a work in progress and will continue to get better.

Have you installed the last update?

Before the last update the details and depth numbers were missing with an overlay turned on. Now they work perfectly.

I spent the morning on the couch watching fishing shows while searching Vermilion. smile

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
