Seeing tree rubs?

Good Topic!

I saw more scrapes than rubs this year....probably 10:1 I bet I was seeing 15+ scrapes per day in some areas. I was still hunting/speed scouting most of the season due to being in a new area. I was north of Duluth a ways. In the past, it's been vice versa.

Anybody have a theory on this?...hopefully a scientific based theory backed up with research.

We were talking about it a bit in camp and we really couldn't put an explanation on it. It seems like they do both or nothing at all usually. Obviously they still have competition or they wouldn't be laying down any sign.

Our family property by thompson/esko had quite a few this year. There was one area that had 15 rubs that was about the size of a football field. Hunted that same area this past weekend and didn't see one deer! The deer just weren't moving in our area like years past...well actually, they were moving, but at night. The cameras proved that.
