Question for deer hunters

Recommended Posts

The woods belong to everybody. And more than one deer has been pushed to a shooter by someone out with their dog. I'd put a blaze orange vest on the dog though or at least an orange collar. And YOU wear orange too!!

Personally, I don't go IN the woods during deer season in MN. Ha Ha!

If you do go out I would try and avoid areas where you can tell people are hunting. Just as a matter of respect for the guys out there. I wouldn't feel to good about my spot anymore if some dog spread it's scent all over or worse yet lifted it's leg on a tree by my stand. Maybe keep to logging roads instead of cutting across country.

Find a good grousey looking road that doesn't have any other vehicles parked nearby and you should be good to go. Otherwise, just for the safety of you and your dog and since you wouldn't know exactly where the deer hunters are posted I would stay out. Neither you, your dog or a deer hunter wants lead of any size in their vicinity. Just my .02

Good question. Nobody will want to see you of course, and I don't think bird hunting around stand hunters is the greatest idea. At the same time I don't think you'd be doing anything wrong. Flip a coin?

just be smart about it. avoid trails with trucks or recent atv traffic. dont hunt woods, just trails. and if fido starts running get him back asap. good luck and hopefully you kill every bird in the woods. i've seen 3 this morn and every time they sound like a deer walking!
