Dahitman44
I set up some stuff in front of my camera back in August. 1. A Salt Block and Trace Minerial Block. Not food in these so I think they are ok.2. A bag of some red granular substance that said minerial on it. I did not read the contents because I thought it would have been off by now. The deer did not like it. No pics either.I forgot to go dig it out. It is about 100 yards from my new stand and food plot. Now what?
Kdog10
Legally speaking if it is in fact mineral it can stay no problems. If it has grain in its ingredients (which you dont know) it would have to have been removed 10 days (I believe) prior to opener.Personally, if it were me I would remove it even though the season is right around the corner. That is also assuming that you can get out to your hunting location easily without a 2 hour drive to do so.
mrklean
salt minerals your ok as long as there isnt any food in them or trace of food, and i also though some said if you are in the TB or CWD zone you cant have even minerals but im not sure on that
Dahitman44
Not in any of those zones.
Dahitman44
I feel sooo bad about forgetting that I am gonna drive an hour to my hunting spot (on Private land) and scoop it up.That was just dumb to forget. I have never tried this powder junk and this is the last year I will waste my time with it.The deer didn't even like it.
Dahitman44
I just thought it would be fun for the kids to have some pics of deer. All we got were pics of a doe a fawn and some squireels
nofishfisherman
Do you know what that red substance was? Was there any food or food scent in it? If it were just minerals then I don't believe there is an issue. If there was food in it then you'd have an issue. I don't have the regs in front of me but doesn't any food/bait need to be removed like 2 weeks before the season? Can anyone confirm that timeframe? Dahitman44
Yeah -- I feel dumb. Never should have done that. They didn't't even like that red stuff. Gonna scoop it off.Just dumb.
TooTallTom
If you saw the bag in the store, would you recognize it? It might be worth making sure it's actually illegal before you go scoop it.Also, I think nofishfisherman was right about the time frame being longer than you have to be totally legal, but no sense in leaving it there any more if it's actually considered bait. Jameson
The regs state something to the effect of "capable of attracting deer..." something or another. You have photographic proof that it wasn't attracting deer. Probably still best to clean it up if it helps clear your conscience.
Musky Buck
I see major differences in what you were up to rather than what deer baiters do like cvc camo'ed piping or whatever there tricks are. Next time be sure what you're dumping but better yet I had about 1,400 pictures at my salt block from august to september, now I get nothing or a skunk, coon, turkey, but go with just a plain white salt block. Anyway, good luck.
Dahitman44
It is all cleaned up ... there was only a tiny bit left -- since it was put out in August
Dahitman44
Could have made a nice snowball ... so not much left. Not too much to worry about.
Archerysniper
My guess from the description is it was antler king deer minerals they come in a orange bag and it's a red substance that looks like driveway salt.
LightningBG
Does sound like Antler King. Is this what the bag looked like?
