Todd Caswell
I'm not sure The guy that shot is was Tim anderson, I saw the pictures from a neibor that hunts almost every day on the South point between the main lake and the 371 bay... fishuhalik
never seen an eider, although i probably wouldnt know it if i saw it. weirdest duck i've seen was a big drake blackduck. my dad & i jumped about 500 mallards out of a beaver pond and he picked it out of the flock. pretty cool, shoulda mounted it... Matt Breuer
Crazy to hear about a sea duck that far south. Hear stories of piles of them moving through LOW along with scoters.Blackduck's were pretty common to see around NW MN when I was a kid. Been about 5 years since I've seen one now... bmc
I know a guy who shot 6-8 long tail (old squaw) ducks on a lake here by Deer River a couple of years ago.I've seen scoters up on Bowstring before too.Cool!!!Brian
muzzy
Hey Todd, I think the duck you are talking about might actually be an Old Squaw...joint effort shot between Tim Anderson's son and friend Shon. My buddy Shon texted me a pic that morning wondering what the heck it was...I had to look it up...I'm not used to sea ducks so I was pretty baffled...I forgot what it was but there is a reason for their funny expressions in the pic! Superduty
Definitely an Old Squaw. Where the heck did that name come from anyway?
sdsufowler
That pic is pretty sweet! Back in college in Brookings, sd a good friend of mine shot a hen longtail which he had mounted. I guess from what I heard from a biologist is that the occurence of seeing one is one sighting a year in our area. Beatiful bird.
SandPoint
The name came from the sounds they make

Thank you that is the pic that I was shown, just the wrong info or wrong translation, I have never hunted sea ducks either. Either way a pretty cool bird. So it was not an Eider but an OLD Squaw
