LX-7 vs FL-22 Any thoughts?

I just picked up a brand new FL22 from thorne's today looks like a solid unit! LX7 looks good too, but Ive owned a FL12, FL20, now FL22 I love the screen they have all worked perfect never had any problems and battery life lasts a long time. You wont go wrong with either unit. Just because 1 guy had terriable luck doesnt mean you will. I take care of my stuff but use the [PoorWordUsage] out of them when fishing then clean up when I get home

I own an FL-22 and I can tell you that I have never been happier using any other flasher. I had an FL-8 for about 12 years that I bought used and it never let me down. I have run a couple different Marcums and they get the job done but I will stick with Vexilar. The FL-22 really excells when you use it in shallow water. Last winter, late ice, I was fishing crappies in 4 feet of water that was THICK with weeds, nice green lively stuff. With my FL-22 I set it on low-power mode to get rid of the weed clutter and it absolutely cleared the screen with the gain set properly. I could easily see when the crappies were coming in and was able to quickly work the few that were under my hole, then hop to the next one and repeat. In 4 feet of water I had 144 degrees of view on the FL-22 thanks to the 10 foot scale. On most other units, that would be only 72 degrees of view, and without low-power mode, it would be full of clutter from the thick green weeds. I spend most of my time on the ice in less than 10 feet of water so the FL-22 was the absolute perfect choice for me. If you find yourself in shallow water frequently, you owe it to yourself to choose the FL-22. If you fish deeper water more often, the FL-20 has you covered. Still get the low-power mode, but at a 20' scale. If you do a lot of fishing at night, the night-mode on Vexilar units is nice too, cuts the brightness so you aren't flasher blind at the end of the night. Mount one on a blue-box and the customization options are endless.

Take care.

The LX-5 will also read through the weeds in shallow water without the need for the LP feature, far better than my partners FL-20....

+1

And the night dimming feature... how do we Marcum guys get by with the flasher blindness? I can never ever see right after using my flasher for long periods of time at night. It is a constant battle, is anyone interested in a support group? M.G.W.F.B

Thats like comparing a 2001 cell phone to a new Iphone, LX-7 all the way!

Agreed. I don't think it is a fair comparison at all. Bruised Apples/ Fresh Oranges. grin

If I were in the market for a new flasher and had the cash I would have zero hesitation pulling the trigger on the LX7. Still trying to find an excuse to buy one.

Ohhh yaaaa! Well mine is bugger than yours!........lol...... I look forward to these "who has the best flasher" threads. Keep it going, good stuff.....

Many of us have owned/used most or all the units currently on the market, we base our judgment on what we see on the ice side by side...I fish next to a FL-20, a VX-1 IMO in the Marcum line up is as close to apples to apples as I see it... Everything else in the Marcum line up is an improvement that the FL series hasn't caught up to yet and after using a 22 they have a long long ways to go to just catch up... Vex does make a good unit just outdated technology...

What about this one? Looks like it does it all! Lowrance Elite-5 IceMachine

Put that on a table with the LX7 and ask me only to take one for free and I'll take the lowrance hands down. But I still will pay for a flasher and take that fishing if they where free. Some people just got to stop drinking the kook-aid and just learn how to read their flasher.

Retail price on that new Lowrance unit is $650. I want to buy something that will work in both my boat and on the ice. Was looking into the Lx7 but this Lowrance is intriguing with the GPS and lake contours. If I was strictly ice fishing I can't think of one reason to get the Lowrance except for a slight cost savings.

$650 for an Elite??? HDS is less than that and a huge upgrade.... I'll pick the LX-7 got use on both if those are the only 2 choices but I prefer units dedicated to ice and open water, I use them both differently so no 1 unit will work for both applications....

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
