Honda generator

usmtsrocks

Recommended Posts

I have a Honda 2000 model..bought it last fall and worked awesome for me all last winter. I dusted it off the other day to give it a look over and run it for awhile and it was a no go. Couldn't get it fire. I did leave probably a half tank of gas sit in it over the summer, maybe that's the issue...

Anyone experienced something similar? What to do?

Thanks!

Is the low oil/dirty oil light coming on? I would start off with fresh oil and gas if it has been sitting that long.

If that is not the issue, most likely you will need to put in a new plug. (or clean it) They have them at NH. If you do it yourself, be very careful when pulling the plug out so that it does not fall into the recoil. You may have to pull the housing off to retrieve it. I found that out the hard way.

Could be another victim of ethanol!

That was my first thought, while it is a top line unit, still can't get around the gumming up issue, that is in great part do to the fuels that are out there now, especially in a inactive unit. Does anyone have any advice as far as stabilizers in the unit. See that Honda makes one, I'm sure it will be spendy, but what is the point of a generator if you cant start it.

I've never tried cleaning out my carb. Possibly run some SeaFoam through it to clean everything out? How much was the carb cleaning? I guess it would depend if rocks wants to do it himself or have a shop work on it.

I generally use my Honda throughout the year and use premium gas in it. I have not tried the non oxygenated gas yet.

Re: PB

If you are mechanically inclined. Use a socket wrench and take out the plug. Use one of your old lady's emery boards and lightly file both sides of the tip on the sparkplug. Most likely it will be black. Just clean it enough that you can see the metal and not carbon. Put the plug in, dump the gas and get some fresh gas. Run a light mixture of SeaFoam and tank of gas (premium) through it. My guess is that everything should be fine. If not, new plug is my call.

Thoughts anyone?

you probably do this, but i only burn non-oxy fuel in mine and have never

had an issue,i leave my gas in all the time, and just run it every month or so, my hondas almost 10 years old,and all ive done is change the oil as directed and replace the plug every 2 years or so depending on usage,

anyhow, sounds like the carb may need cleaning,

mike.

i though the ethanol thing was really only a problem for older stuff with carbs designed before ethanol was put in the gas. Newer stuff is designed to handle it. Yes/No?

I think what is trying to be said is the ethanol itself gums up when sitting for periods of time. Which wouldn't have anything to do with what it's in, just the fact that it gums up over time. It's the nature of the ethanol beast.

There are at least 2 gas stations in my area that sell 91 octane non-oxygenated fuel. This is what I run in all my small motors (lawn mower, snow blower, ice auger). I use it not for the increase in octane but the lack of ethanol.

I just picked up a Honda 2000i today and it purrs like a kitten. Does anyone use one to power an electric fan in their porty instead of a propane heater?

It will power a milkhouse heater no problem, but...................the generator will obviously run near full throttle.

I've never done any actual tests/calculations, but considering the wear and tear of running at full throttle and the extra gas you will use, propane will be your better option.

If I hit the lake in my cold wheelhouse, I use a milkhouse heater to supplement the propane until the shack is warm. Then I rely on propane.

But then again, if you are only able to get out a few times a year, it's a viable option. For the guy that fishes a few times or more a week, I think propane is by far the most economical way to go.

The easiest way to get it started after sitting a while is to remove the cover to expose the carburator and drain the carb just enough to see gas in the line as it is draining. Your don't even need the gas to hit the floor. Tighten it up again and it will start right up. Why this works, I don't know, but it works for me every time it has been sitting a while.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
