Group of eagles (images added 10/25)

Recommended Posts

We were on the way to a cabin closing on the Cook end of Lake Vermilion yesterday and saw a group of a dozen eagles along Hwy. 115. These four juveniles of various ages hung out in the tree longer than normal because of the 40 mph wind gusts, I'd reckon.

Great capture!! But I have a question, do golden eagles ever frequent Minnesota? I hear people say that all of the time but I usually correct them and tell them that no, what you are seeing are juvenile Bald eagles! But of course some people insist that they have seen a golden eagle.

Golden eagles are frequently seen in the bluff areas in SE MN and across the river into WI. I went over to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha last winter and joined in a field trip to search for them. We did run into a couple hunting around the bluffs.
