fishersofmen
They are talking possible heavy fog in the morning on opener. Do you guys think this is good or bad??? I would rather have no fog.....
Maxxed Out
I've had a lot of really cool hunts in the fog. Typically however, the birds tend to sit tight before they move.

Yup, cool to hunt in, but they move later and I usually seem to be less successful in the fog.
HNTNBUX
I would take clear and windy any day. I agree with the others.
swany25
Nothing better though when you can hear the whistling wings before you can see them, and then they are in your face.
Maxxed Out
My experience is mostly honkers in a field in a fog. It's REALLY cool when they are calling back to you trying to find you and you trying to find them and then boom there they are. Like honkers in heavy snow. carpshooterdeluxe
Last water hunt I had with a thick layer of fog over the water I had a flock of gadwall come in and they landed right on my mojo knocking it over. First and only time I've ever seen a duck hit any type of decoy.
TylerS
Fog is the wild card. If you're where the birds are, you shouldn't have a problem. Big tip: LISTEN! It's typically darn quiet on foggy mornings. I typically call little, if ever, and softer than normal. Or call when being called to. Otherwise, I've seen a lot of guys go nuts-o on the call and wonder where all the birds went to...
kuec1kyl
I personally love hunting the fog. Ducks seem to fly much lower and are easier to get to decoy if they are in the area
Maxxed Out
The one thing that I run into with honkers in fog is a lot of time the majority of the birds won't leave the roost until the fog lifts. Same thing with rain.
JustLOVEit
BAD!! Keeps them coming in too close and too low!! My gun isn't setup for that!
goblueM
... heaven forbid you use a different choke on a foggy morning...
UMC
Never seem to have great luck on foggy days...birds don't seem to fly real actively and they can't see the decoys. Last year on opener we had patchy fog and when it would clear we'd have birds coming in almost instantly and then the fog would roll in and we'd get nothing. You always hear stories about people slaughtering them in the fog and I'm sure it would be great if they were coming in but I've never experienced that. fishersofmen
We ended up getting completely lost on our way across the pond....couldn't see more than a few feet in front of us. There were several other boats heading out at the same time and everyone was yelling "where the heck are we at!" Ended up seeing plenty of birds though, a couple landing in my decoys as we were still putting them out.
