Special hunts and extra tags

For the Ripley hunt its two deer limit, buck and doe or two does, does that count against your state bag limit for doe tags? I read on a different forum he said special hunts dont count against your bag limit so you could get two bonus tags and still shoot a buck with your regular archery tag (not at ripley.

You understand that correctly mrklean. Ripley and all the other "special hunts" are still based on your normal tags.

If you shoot a buck at Ripley that is your buck for the year and if you choose to tag two does at Ripley, you are filling your either-sex archery tag and therefore cannot shoot a buck with your bow.

It's kind of too bad they don't give you an extra tag for Ripley, it just kind of makes sense in my head but I can't really explain why. grin I would think the DNR wouldn't mind the extra money and I am sure a good number of guys would be willing to poney up the $$$ for an extra tag in these kinds of situations.

hmmmm....what you all are saying is how I thought it worked, but I thought last year or the year before lcornice told us that bonus tags used at Ripley don't count toward our 5 statewide or 2 managed limits. Please don't take my word for it, but it might warrant an email to the DNR.

They count against regular tags. I am going to hunt there next week and we have already received the paperwork stating as much. I am sure it will be reenforced at the briefings we have to attend prior to going down range to scout and hunt.
