WD-40 as an attractant?

Have any of you ever used WD-40 as a bluegill attractant? I remember it was the rage at a local lake in SD when I was a kid, but I haven't used it anywhere else, then I tried it on a NC Iowa lake yesterday and outfished the guy I was with hands-down. It seems backwards, but I was just wondering if I was the only one that had heard of this?

I have a friend who swears by wd-40 for bluegills. Last year he tryed to coax me into trying it. I never had the courage to try it but have to admit he uses it quite often and does catch his share of fish.

WD40 works occasionally because it has fish oil in it. However, it has lots of other chemicals that don't belong in the water. Try using some of the new scents out there that include fish oil. They will work much better. I have been experimenting with PRO-CURE scents this winter. The shiner scent has been the best to date.

Couple of years ago, a guy set-up within 40 yds of me and I noticed he was rubbing a rag on his minnows which I thought was very strange. I watched him catch a couple of nice pike so I had to go investigate. Turns out he sprayed WD on a rag and then rubbed it on his shiner's. Had I not seen it, I would have thought it was talk!

You're not the only one. It's a fairly well-known 'closely guarded' secret. I prefer cod-liver oil, myself. Than, anyway, if I don't catch anything I at least smell like I did.

As a trapper I have lots of oils and lures.

Two that I use are pure fish oil and shellfish oil and I have dipped minnows and euros, waxies etc. And it does work good sometimes. I also agree do not let any chemical in the water from wd-40.

Another semi-secret scent to try is one picked up from the soft smooth hands of women. Ever wonder why your wife gets more bites that you? Try her hand lotion! I've been using Avon's basic care-deeply for the last five years and in addition to having pretty hands for a guy (besides the panfish dorsal fin poke holes in the left palm) I tend to catch atleast my share of fish. I've used it for all species including walleye. We brought a bottle along for the Leech Lake tourney years back and managed to place in the low teens. We were actually dipping the crawlers in the lotion. Better let the wife know which bottle is for what!!!

OK here's an old family secret-If you can ever find it anymore (try gramma's bathroom) the old glass jars of oil-of-olay work awesome for trout and maybe other fish because it had turtle oil in it and trout really like to eat dead turtles! I don't think the new stuff has it and i can't find anymore of the old stuff frown.gif When I was a kid fishing w/ my dad in whitewater park we'd bang trout under the bridges and people would come by and ask what our secret was and my dad would charge them 5$ for some secret formula-you should have seen their faces when he'd squirt a little oil of olay on thier hands!..I'm sure they're wives/moms and grandmas don't have anymore either wink.gif tight lines

I heard I while ago on some other site that an old timer put preperation-H on his minnows and it worked great. I guess there is some kind of shark oil or something like that in there and I guess it really attracts the fish. Just some food for thought! grin.gif ><>
