Apple wood for smoker

So my mom lost an apple tree in her back yard. I was wondering if I could 'harvest' some of the wood for my smoker. Is there anything I would need to do to it besides take the bark off? She never used chemicals on the apples or yard. The only ones to eat the apples were the deer. I am not sure what variety of apples they were, the tree was planted probably 25 years ago.

Not sure you really have to do anything to it. I burn apple branches in my smoker all the time.

Just let the wood dry out. Then cut to size and you're good to smoke! I would "harvest" the whole thing if I were you.

I have a couple sacks full of chunks from my friends parents apple orchard.

Took a bunch of trimmed up branches, and did 2 things. Chunked out the larger ones, and ran the small ones through a wood chipper.

apple wood is awseome for the smoker, let me know if you need help i have a saw and splitter we can chunk that up in no time.
