Rip_Some_Lip
I recently purchased a pressure cooker and I am going to try my first meal tomorrow. I found a recipe online for beef stew and it sounds pretty good. I dug some fresh potatoes and carrots today and may throw a few fresh tomatoes in too. If anyone has any good pressure cooker recipes, I would appreciate it if you want to share them here. I will let you know how it turns out and post the recipe if it is good. dewey1
A LOT OF RECIPES ON LINE. JUST BE CAREFULL NOT TO OVERCOOK THINGS. ESPECIALLY MEATS. THEY CAN GET LIKE RUBBER. SOUP STOCK IS THE BEST WHEN MADE IN A PRESSURE COOKER.
thirdeye
I several pressure cookers and a pressure canner. I like them for soups bases, stews, whole chickens, winter squash, and meats that I want to shred for things like tamales. I also use a pressure cooker finish after I smoke my pastrami to really make it tender like the New York Deli style. Garlic mashed potatoes are really good from a pressure cooker, but you have to really go heavy on garlic, somehow the pressure kind of kills some of the flavor of garlic.A good resource is Miss Vicki. Not only are there good recipes, but has timetables and other tips.http://missvickie.com/
Rip_Some_Lip
I made my stew for supper and the wife and I were more than impressed with the results. It only took about an hour from the time I started chopping veggies to the time we started eating. I cooked it for 15 minutes after it came up to pressure and it tasted like it had been cooking for hours. This is the first time using a pressure cooker so we were a little skeptical. I cant wait to try it again. Google "Mom's Beef Stew (Pressure Cooker)" if anyone wants the recipe. We thickened it up a little before serving but other than that, we pretty much followed the recipe. I did forget to add some fresh green beans which would have been good but we also made some cheddar biscuits.

I've used a pressure cooker for years, but never really did whole meals in it, I usually use if for cooking the meats for soups, like beef soup bones or chickens, when they're done, I take the meat or chicken out, cool down the cooker, skim the fat off, and use the rest as my soup stock. May have to experiment with the whole meal deal.
