If you could live anywhere

Near the Missouri river in the Dakotas. The other side has praire dogs, antelope, and muleys.

In MN I would say International Falls. I am not a fan of "tourist towns" ie: Ely, Grand Marais(the whole north shore), Brainerd.

I would look at an area for variety and year-round opportunity. For example: I would not want to live somewhere just for a few weeks of great duck hunting and not much else to do the rest of the year. You also need to look at land access. Example: You could move to the heart of SD's pheasant country, but you would not have access to land.

For hunting western North Dakota but for fishing Northwest angle inlet Minnesota or International Falls. Bemidji would also be on my list.

I wouldn't move to Devils lake unless you bought your own land for the waterfowl. I guess thats the same story for any hunting land no matter where you go.

Hands down the Glacial Lakes region in NE South Dakota. Fantastic fishing, unbelievable waterfowl hunting, unmatched pheasant hunting, good deer hunting, and good turkey hunting. All with less people than in MN. Also, Walleye season never closes and non resident waterfowl licenses are limited so you can go almost the entire season and never hear a shot from another hunter. Only negatives for the area are, it can get pretty nasty in the winter. Also, if you are a younger person and like to go out and have a few with people other than locals, you would have to travel about a half hour to 45 minutes to Watertown in order to do that.

I have to agree with Jim, We moved to Grand Rapids in 2006 and I love it, I could fish a different lake every day of the year. I am only less than 100 miles from Bemidji, Brainerd, Duluth, Red Lake, Millelacs, or Ely. I have traveled to at least 25 of the 50 states and when we retired I told my husband I wanted to stay right here. I hope to spend many more years up north and enjoying it. Yeah the winters may be a little longer, but then that gives me more time for ice fishing.

I grew up in the metro area and went to college in Bemidji and now live near Little Falls MN.

I love fishing but waterfowl and deer are a close second. I really think Bemidji would be the best place. It has the best fishing for muskie, walleye, and the bass and panfish are underated. There are so many smaller lakes that get overlooked in the area that are absolutly phenominal!

The waterfowl hunting is pretty good and ND is only a couple hours away. Deer hunting is good. Tons of public land that is good for hunting!

Detroit Lakes would be a good place too. THe lakes around there are great and the bird hunting is good and ND is pretty close too.

NE SD is nice looking but I don't know too much about it out there. NW WI would be nice too but I don't know that much about it either.
