I ended up doing a factory reset on my droid incredible due to the issue with the continual low storage space on the phone problem (widely reported after the gingerbread update). After the factory reset I was able to download the Lakes North app again - no separate apk file, etc.. right from the Android Market...

One other thing.. if you have a droid incredible and you recently stopped receiving text messages, it's a known bug... you need to download a hotfix to make them work again.

Wish it was that easy for me. I spent my lunch hour at the ATT store. The sales guy couldn't figure it out (not surprising), he called a customer support geek and a tech geek, all to no avail. He told me to download the latest update on my phone (need wifi) and come back he would try again. I'm telling you, things like this shouldn't be that difficult. I thought they were called smart phones?

From an Amazon review of your phone:

"If you're having "unsuccessful installations" of apps from the app market, a workaround is to go to settings>SD & phone storage > Unmount SD card. Then go back to the market and the app(s) should install. Go back to the same settings window to mount your SD card again."

Also:

"- There are guides to install sideloaded apps (workaround AT&T's block, to install .apk files), apps from the Amazon App Store, and Swype - all are available on Android Central forums. Very easy to search for.

- Everything you need to root can be found just by searching for "Inspire 4G" on the xda-developers site."

Good Luck, and even after you get it installed successfully, you will need to allow 5-30 minutes to download all of the map info. Just a heads-up if you are in a spotty area or ona low battery. And if, by chance, this helps you, you can pay me back in ribs! grin

Huh... I guess I'll have to take back my grumblings about at&T service. The Tech Geek just left me a message and said its fixed. Shut my phone off, turned it on, went to the settings. then apps and like magic there is now a box to check that says "allow downloading from unknown sources". I guess I can't knock the customer service. Hopefully it all goes smoothly now.

Just released ---

Marine & Lakes: USA

- Now with pinch zoom and landscape mode!

- Now compatible with Motorola Xoom

- Now compatible with Honeycomb

And more....

I haven't gotten a chance to download it yet, but I imagine it is similar to the Apple version now. What irritates me is I now have to buy the app all over again...for $10!!!!! No updating that I could see!! mad

Whoever downloads it let us know how it goes.

I purchased this app this morning. I am having a bear of a time trying to get it downloaded. I am connected to Wireless with a excellent reception. The purchase part went fine (go figure) but it just hangs at the start of the download. The progress bar never even starts. I have done everything they suggested like turning off sleep feature and so on. I have a EVO 4G running 2.3.3 and Navionics HSOforum said that the phone was supported. I have a email into them so I guess I will just wait to hear back. Kind of frustrating.

The Android app announced is a totally new app. Consider it a second generation app. The 29 apps we used to have on the Android market are no longer available. They were replaced by this new app, 8 regions in total. Please understand that we could not provide this as an update. Yes, this new app would require a new purchase. It is a totally revamped app with a different structure and many new features. Lakes and marine are combined for US, greater coverage areas, the freedom to download the area of your choice with the freshest data, a new user interface AND the new Navionics NewsStand where you can enjoy reading articles of interest in many categories like fishing, cruising, sailing! Pinch zoom and landscape mode are now available. A new "My Info" feature added for quick info on your favorite locations. Now compatible with Honeycomb 3.0 and Motorola Xoom. PLEASE note that the apps you purchased previously are valid and usable if you chose to continue using them. No future updates to them though. Hope this clarifies the situation.

I feel very bad for anyone that uploaded the previous app and either had to reset or replace their phone, because there is no option to redownload it like 99 percent of all other apps. Basically it's putting $13 in a pile and setting fire to it. Who is to say that this won't happen again with the "next" generation?

I would LOVE the pinch zoom, but this kind of ticks me off the way Navionics did this.

Agreed, I wouldn't have minded paying, but give the existing customers a slight break instead of just shoving them to the side and forcing them to pay for an update.

Guess I'm not surprised though, it's typical of many corporations now days, they care more about the potential customer than the existing ones that have already given them their money.

I tried again late last night and it downloaded just fine. It took a whole 20 seconds to download and install. This is a very cool app. I did not have the old one so I can't compare the two. It is very functional and easy to work with. I will give it two thumbs up.

I will agree the way Navionics handled this was not the best. But, what other choice do you have, aside from purchasing a $100 mapping chip? Now this $13.00 app doesn't look to bad eh..

I had North and South in the old version. I was pretty annoyed that I couldn't reload when I updated from Froyo to Gingerbread. Then I spent the $13 for Marine US AND Canada (Lakes and Ocean all in one package, only download what you want...) Alaska all the way to Barrow, Bahamas, lots of Cuba...

So far I like this new version better. Easier to use. Now if the little lines on the map are where they are supposed to be I'll be really pleased. I found several spots on the old version that weren't even close...

So far so good.

For what its worth I am now able to load the old navionics onto my new phone when previously it said it was unavailable....I still might load the new version of the app but if you were like me and had the old app on a old phone and not able to load it onto the new one it might work now...

I should also note that I had emailed them a month of so ago when I got the new phone and they said I was sol with downloading the old app... So something changed cause I was waiting till ice season to get the new app and just by chance I looked and it said I could install it.

I have been hatching out emails with them regarding this issue. If you are having any issues with this email them mobile(at)navionics.com

Their customer service isn't the greatest, however I have gotten them to issue me a refund....

Basically they are offering the old app for free. they will send any old app user the APK file to install on your phones and have as a hard copy...

I still would like to see a credit difference to download the new app instead of just receiving a refund.

For those that have used both of those apps, does the new app have more/better maps?

OR is the interface just improved with the same old maps?

My one gripe about the app was that there wasn't a proper simple way to MARK my location. Just curious if they have done something with that.

My one gripe about the app was that there wasn't a proper simple way to MARK my location. Just curious if they have done something with that. They made it a little easier with a set of crosshairs. Still no way to say "mark current location", but you are now able to move the crosshairs directly over the location cursor and press the "?" button and select "Add to Favorites"

    • Power output is:  amps x volts = watts   If your charger is pushing 10amp at 12 volt: 12 x 10 = 120 watts.  2 banks = 240 watts.   240 watts / 120v at your outlet = 2 amp.   Efficiency isn't 100% so it's gonna be more than 2 amp on your garage circuit, but maybe like 2.4 amps.     I think.... It's been a while, LOL.  Either way 20amps output on a charger for a 12v battery isn't the same as pulling 20amps off your garage circuit.
    • Wanderer, thank you. I did look at the breakers for my garage/outside outlets and they are 20 amp.  I reached out to the company that makes dual pro chargers with the question and this is the reply I received.:     Thank you for reaching out to us here at PCS. The Sportsman series charger, although rated ay 10 amps per bank, draws only 5 amps from AC when all banks are charging. As the Professional series which provides 15 amps per bank, has a maximum AC draw of 7.5 amps with all banks charging.
    • That’s an interesting point.  While I understand how Amps work, I can’t say I’m fully versed in the draw of modern on board chargers.   By modern code, outdoor and outbuilding outlets should be 20 Amp.  If your outside or garage outlets are 15 Amp, they’re undersized.  But that is quite possible if the garage was built before that code became enforced.   With heavy use, you may not be able to keep up on daily charging without the 10 Amp per channel charger, however that’s with very aggressive use for consecutive days.  On our June muskie trip we run up to 15 hours a day for up to 7 days on a 24V Ulterra and by mid week we’re starting to see the batteries not reach full charge.  That’s a lot of bank running at nearly 2 mph on windy shores.   We charge at a dock with up to 6 boats per dock plugged in - some with 36 volt systems.  Now I’m not sure if all the outlets are on a dedicated circuit but I’m betting they aren’t.  But they’re all 20A outlets with a lot of draw on them.  At max draw, they’re not keeping up but also not tripping the breakers.   What I’m saying, without a technical review is: you’re probably fine either way.  You probably won’t tax your batteries so much that they can’t recover on a 5 Amp per channel overnight charge and a 10Amp per channel charger probably won’t be too much to plug into your 15A outlet - if it really is a 15A.  If you’re sure, you’re sure, but I would double check if you’re not 100%.
    • Another question- I wil be running 24 volts on the trolling motor for this boat, what amperage onboard charger should I buy? Some have told me 10 amps per channel, but at full draw that would be 20 amps, and my outlets at home and where I plug in at the lake is only 15 amps, is 5 amps per channel enough to charge batteries overnite after using spotlock during the day? Thanks for the help.
    • Got a look at a condor yesterday at Pinacles national park. This was the best I could zoom with my phone.
