English Spring Spaniel Puppy - 3 Months Old-Retrieving and Quartering Help

Rick,

Unless I missed something I don't see any issues. what I do see thou is a potential dog that if it keeps going like it is could be running trials at a young age. Bill has been training for many years and is probably the best in the state when it comes to springers. I bought my Springer(Sandcreeks Holy Cow : AKA Jersey) from Bill.

The plan was to train quartering, bird marking and finding. The cameraman didn't have a bird and didn't do anything to coax the puppy his way on quartering until the end.

It was not a straight downwind but it is very common to hunt or trial springers in a downwind.

Note the grass - green. Do you know what it does to scenting?

I would say that the biggest question I have is why is he teaching quartering at 3 months old? I would be working on obedience at this time. Working on retrieving and just being a puppy. That is just me and I obviously do not know the whole situation. That being said, I don't think the pup did that bad. He/She is only 3 months old and will not quarter perfectly like a trial dog.
