Northdrifter08
I'm just starting to get into Muskie fishing and was wondering if this deal I found would be worth it? I found an Abu Garcia Revo Toro Winch... new for $179...normally run $279.. this is the 51 Series not the 61 that I hear about... Any comments? Im not the avid muskie guy... I pull out the tackle for a short while when were in a good lake but typically on get out and dedicate a couple full days a summer...
goblueM
i could be wrong but the -1 designation usually means a left handed reeland you want the 60/61 rather than the 50/51 size

I'm use to reeling this way since I typically fish with spinning reels... ...Are the 60/61 that big of a difference?
Esox_Magnum
51 is the left handed modle just a size smaller than the 60/61 but still a good muskie reel. Personaly I'm not a fan of the winch, way to slow for me personaly for all around use. Most guys use them mainly for the ouble 10 bucktails. I also reel my spinning gear with my left hand but never could do it with a baitcaster, just seems weird to me....
Nick Kuhn
You will lose line capacity on the 5X size (like 20%) but it won't do anything but slow your retrieve at the end of casts. Reels that end in 0 are right hand retrieve and reels that end in 1 are left hand retrieve. Cabelas has a Toro 50 and 60 for $170 right now. Those are not a Winch and would be a better overall reel. A Toro Winch would not make a very good jerkbait reel.I have a 61 myself and it's been a very good reel. A little noisy on the cast but that doesn't bother me at all. I was just looking at the Toro 60's at Cabelas and for the price and how much I muskie fish I'm leaning toward one of them....Thanks for the advice... I'm sure once I catch one of those lunkers I'll be looking at more gear....

muskiemanAD
I saw another post a few up that said this is a better reel than the winch? Is this the case, or what does this one do better worse than the winch? Just deciding on maybe adding one of these to my collection.
Nick Kuhn
The only difference is the gear ratio, everything else is identical. The winch is 4.6:1, the normal toro 5.4:1, and the HS is 6.4:1. So the winch will make reeling in big bucktails easier, but it will be slower. For lures like jerkbaits where you want to pick up slack quickly, the winch is not the best choice in the family. Basically whichever gear ratio you choose there will be trade-offs. The best reel really depends on what you'll throw primarily. The 5.4:1 just happens to be the most versatile.
