Suffix 832 is it worth the extra $$

Recommended Posts

Another line option is Berkleys Nanofil. I have used fireline and many other "braids" for quite some time and am quite impressed with Nanofil so far. Only had it out 4 times but really like it. Strong as heck like most superlines, smooth, thin, and cast like nothing I have seen.

Ime useing it for jigging but I think it would be a good rigging line also as the thin diameter of it cuts the water nice.

As for the 832, I have used it a bit and it is very nice also... cool

I also plan to give Berkley Nanofil a try for my jiggin rods (I think it won iCast line award).

I have Suffix 832 30# on one of my baitcasters. Love the quite/smoothness over Powerpro. I don't have Hi-vis, the greeen bleeds a little bit, and seems to fade pretty quickly. Haven't used it long enough to see how it holds up over PP/FL

I think you will be happy with it over PP/FL. For me, until my FL/PP reels need respooling, I don't think it is worth replacing with any line until it needs it.

832 is great stuff, I have it on several spinning and baitcasting rods, but I agree with NCLaker, it's not worth a re-spool.

I run #30 on my baitcaster bottom bouncer rods and I am impressed. The sensitivity that it has given me in this application is more than I expected. It holds knots very well and is very tough. The #30 is about the diameter of 8 lb mono so it dosen't dig into the line on the spool and comes off smooth. Is it worth taking fireline off to respool with 832? I wouldn't but I would purchase it next time I need line.

I have not tried the new nanofil line yet. Still waiting to see if the bad reviews go away or if they are for real.

So how much is too much with these lines aas far as cost. I thought the 832 was pricey til I saw the nanofill. WOW! shocked

Im confused... I just checked 2 on-line stores...

832 - 19.95 or 19.95 for 150 yards

Nanofil 19.95 or 19.99 for 150 yards

I have the 832 on 2 cat rods, 80# test I believe and I also have one jigging rod and one for rigging.

I have been very happy with the line in regards to sensitivity and preformance.

I purchase some yellow Hi Vis braided line online from the big online auction site for about 1/3 the cost of 832 and it seems to be just as good of line.

Made in China. This stuff does not fade either.

I have the 832 on one of my catfish/sturgeon reels (50lb) and on one of my walleye reels (20lb). I have noticed the line fades rather quickly. I have only used the 50lb line a couple of times and there is a very noticable difference in color in the line thats been in the water and the line that is deeper on the spool and hasnt seen water yet. I am actually very surprised at how fast this stuff fades, especially considering the price. Besides the fact that the stuff fades fast, it is a great line in terms of sensitivity and performance.

I am going to give the Berkley Nanofil a shot as my next "super line experiment". I am going to spool one walleye reel up with it and then replace the mono leaders on my leadcore rods with the Nanofil. I think it could potentially be the ideal leadcore setup for me.

You use "regular" less expensive mono as backing to fill the spool until there's enough room for just the one spool (150 yds) of the expensive superbraid.

You probably don't want nano on your leadcore stuff, it's visible underwater.

Had 30# test on my bait caster. Super smooth, soft and quiet when compared to power pro. I would say its just as strong as power pro. However, its not as abrasion resistant. After a bunch of fishing in rivers, lakes, over rocks and through weeds, you can clearly see abrasion. 832 does fade super fast, but I dont think that affects the performance. I've already went through my entire spool of 832 and have since gone back to power pro. I've used power pro for many many years and every year I try to switch lines but always come back to power pro. The 832 almost made me switch and is probably the next best thing to power pro IMO. Can't wait for the new PP Super 8 Slick if its like the original power pro with the softness and smoothness of 832, game over.

I thought the Nano stuff was "clear"? I have read several reviews online and they all say it is almost a white color while out of the water but when put in the water, it is clear.

Yep, not clear. It looks alot like Fireline Crystal. Pound for pound the Nanofil is much thinner than any "superline" out there though.

In a week I'll be on vacation doing alot of snorkeling and fishing, i'll see how it looks to the human eye then... grin

I'll stick with the tried and true Trilene.

More money left over for crankbaits. smile

I take the 150 yard spools and split them 50/50 on two reels that have mono backing. Then after the line gets beat up for 4 to 6 years I'll take it off and flip it, useing the line that has been covered. About 1$ per reel per year... cool

With Fireline, PowerPro, and now Nanofil I typically tie a small #12 swivel to it and then a 24-36 inch piece of mono or flourcarbon. Once in a while I retie the swivel but hardly loose much line off the spool keeping it full for maximum line retrevial and optimum casting... grin
