New no wake zones being inforced in west metro

A buddy of mine gave me a call last night telling me that several lakes both medium to quite large sized in the Annandale area are as of yesterday comepletely NO wake zones. He texed me back a bit later and said he called the DNR and confirmed it. Does this mean that if a lake is under a no wake zone inforcement that you'd basically have to idle wherever you wanted to fish? I take it that it'd also mean absolutley no sking, jet skis, tubing, etc. Anyone else out there in the F.M. family heard anything about this? A couple of these lakes are on our league list of lakes yet to fish and if people have to idle around it would be a bit of an inconvienance. Not so much for me and my 40 horse but for some of the big dogs.... it would be funny I guess.

I called. Talked to a lady who seem quite rude and not really in the know. She put me on hold then I got transfered somehow to a guy from SaukRapids. I left him a message and gave him my cell number. Haven't heard back. I also checked web page and saw nothing close to a recent announcement on the news. So... I'm waiting to hear. I'm a bit concerned because we may be heading up to Sylvia this evening. There is a 25% chance as it is one of 4 lakes we have yet to fish and we draw the name of the lake at 3pm.

No Wake zones are usually county or city ordinances, not DNR.

Wright County Board Adopts No Wake Ordinance

Posted date:7/27/2011

On July 26, 2011 the Wright County Board of Commissioners enacted a temporary no wake zone for several lakes in Wright County. Boats are prohibited from traveling faster than slow, no wake for the entire surface area of the following lakes in Wright County; Albion, Augusta, Bass, Caroline, Clearwater, East and West Lake Sylvia, Henshaw, Locke, Louisa, Marie, Mill Pond, Nixon, Pleasant, Swartout and Sugar.

On Cedar Lake in Corinna Township, The slow no wake zone is only in effect within 300 feet of shoreline.

The Sheriff's Office will be posting no wake notices at effected public accesses in Wright County and intends on having an increased presence on the lakes while this ordinance is in effect. The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's cooperation in complying with the County Commissioners' ordinance.

I just received a text back from our league go to guy, I guess it's true. He is taking Sylvia off the list until further notice. That whole deal is going to tick off alot of people. No more sking, basically no recreation except just putzing around. Tough to fish a lake that size competitively when every boat in league is idling around..... who can idle the fastest??? I think it would have really leveled the playing field for boats like mine, 88, 40 horse tiller smokercraft vs; the rangers, the Nitros, and the big 250 tritons..... lol. It would have been funny seeing all of us idling away from our "shotgun start"...

I've been in tournaments on Prior lake that had no wake on them. Luckily our best spot wan't tooo far away. When the water is that high, boat wake does A TON of damage to the shoreline.

I talked to a DNR officer out on sylvia on Monday and he said that the meeting was sometime Tuesday, and if it indeed went no wake he said they were going to enforce it very strictly, as they should. He also said that there would be a list on the DNR HSOforum soon after they put it as no-wake, but like others mentioned i couldn't find it anywhere.

Ever seen a tournament on the "City Lakes"? Imagine 10 or so bass boats zooming away from the launch with trolling motors on high. grin

Good feeling to know we live in a state where people really CARE about the rivers and lakes and their health. If we don't trash it now with shoreline churning wakes all that nice bass structure will be there next spring.

I'd give those folks who establish the no wake zones a pat on the back.

If you know somebody throwing a hissy fit about it suggest to them they think about it carefully.

Then too....think about all the $4 a gallon gas you'll save! Ha Ha!!
