Fluoro-Braid leader

Anyone have any good experience with this connection? I've tried it many times

and saw a video by Ben Parker so I thought I'd give it another chance. Double

uni-knot. 6 wraps on Fluoro side, 9 on the braid. 20 lb fluoro and 30 lb braid.

On a flippin stick. Trying to hide the fluoro best I could. Colored the Braid too.

Now, I fished a tournament on Saturday and had around 12-13 lbs off the weed line

and the sun was coming out so decided to try a run of docks that have held some

nice fish in the past. flip into the front of a pontoon and get smacked. Set the

hook, fish come to the surface ( no jump ) and the darn line snaps are the knot?

I always have this problem. Thought it was me setting the hook to hard but I have

backed off the drag to help with that. Any suggestions? I still wouldn't have won

the tournament but would have move me up to 2nd or 3rd and a better check than 4th.

Any idea's? I think the braid is costing me bite's based on what my partner is doing from the back of the boat with beavers on a spinning set up.

Happened to me all the time, so now I just use a black permanent marker and run that up the line a couple feet. Or switch to a spool of Floro, but then it wants to jump off if it's not 8lb test or lighter.

Good luck!

TB,

Recently I've been using a blood knot to get my floro on my braid. I've found that the blood knot is a touch easier to tie than the back to back uni. In the past I've taken a brush applicator super glue and just put a tiny drop right on that knot. Never had had the knot fail and never had the line break due to a fish or a hook set. I've usually had a bit heavier line than 30# though. Usually it's 50 that I'm tying to the floro leader. My brother isn't as comfortable with the whole knot thing and one line to the next so he frequently uses a small barrel swivel and just ties that to the end of his braid with a polomer knot then about a 2-3 foot peice of 20 lb floro.

That sucks TB,

I intended to play with the braid to flouro thing a lot this year but my fishing has been on hold obviously. I did have a chance to play with it on a spinning rod while smallie fishing on Mille Lacs early this year before I learned I was in for more surgery. I learned to tie the modified albrecht knot(spelling?) I found it much easier to tie than some of the others mentioned. Some of my kronies have been using it for a lot of years up on the border waters with good results. I fished all day on Mille Lacs and caught a lot of nice smallies on the same leader fished all day. Had to retie the knot to the bait a few times but the braid to flouro knot never broke. I'm guessing that the shock of a hookset in close quarters with a big flippin stick could be an issue. Have you thought about using a small swivel instead of the braid to flouro knot? In a flipping/pitching situation, I would think you could run a 4 foot leader and it would not be running through the guides ever. I usually stick with straight braid or straight mono on my flippin/pitching rods depending on the situation. I feel I am more accurate with good old 20 lb big game than any other line I have tried. A little stretch on a short pitch is probably a good thing.

Hiya -

I've also switched to the Albright knot for fluoro to braid connections. Fairly easy to tie, and seems more reliable. If you do want to use a uni- to uni-knot, one thing that can help is doubling over the braid, especially if there's a significant diameter difference between the braid and leader material.

Cheers,

Don't remember much from surgery day. They had some good stuff pumping through my veins! I'm in an ugly cast for now with WAY too much time to mess around on these boards. Can't find any takers on my boat yet either.

I have really only used this for finesse stuff on spinning rods, I like the Seaguar knot.

But i have noticed with any knot if I really snap the line on the hook set, I tend to run into issues, but more of a sweep set and no issues

Hey E bass ... is the black permanent marker trick just for fishing heavy cover like you would be doing in a flipping or pitching situation. To hide the braid line in the thick stuff ... I though that a green braid would hide pretty well on its own. I am interested so help me out guys

It just another option out there is all. I broke off way too many times with a uni knot. Heavy cover and stained water I don't worry to much about fish seeing the line. In clearer water though I'll mark up the line. I do have 15lb floro in the tackle box just in case that's not working.

I didn't mark up the line and got 2 18"s last night. So they weren't line shy. Stained water and deep weedegde so no big deal. Friend was using mono and I got more, but different jig to.

Hiya -

One thing I didn't think of the first time around... Are you using fluoro leader material, or just castable fluoro? Leader material is a lot tougher, and holds up to the knots way better than fluoro meant to be spooled on a reel. Especially if I'm using lighter (< 15#) fluoro, I always use leader material.

Just a thought.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
