Agreed on the graph mode vs the flasher mode with the 788, or the 798. I set the RTS window to wide, and you basically have a flasher on the right side as it enters the graph. The RTS window is the key to using a graph in an ice fishing application, in my opinion. Using SI when ice fishing is something I have chose to do yet, because of the complexity of the transducer mount,(rotational) and I like things simple, I think the SI option would show you the fish, but you would need to be well versed in readiing it, in order to interpret what it is showing you. Much like SI on a trolling motor. I will never be without SI on my trolling motor...ever, because Ive seen what a powerful tool it can be. but, reading it at 0.1 mph, takes some experience.

I think that the benefit you can get from SI in regards to ice fishing really happens during open water where you can chart the bottom structure and mark waypoints on specific spots that you find where fish would congregate during the ice season. Then you can go back to that specific spot after the freeze and know exactly what is under you which in theory should put you in a better position to find fish faster.

Yep. That is what we were talking about. It works great and to me it gives more info than you get on a vex plus there is a history of the recent activity so if you take your eyes off the screen you can look back a few seconds. But for someone who is used to the standard flasher circle it may not be as valuable.

Thanks for all the input guys. After much consideration I believe I am going to go with the HB798SI. Of course it is much more than I planned on spending so I will have to save a bit before the purchase. The old Eagle Ultra2 Plus has got more work to do yet.
