MTO - or for anyone else.....is there benefit to the split grip rods?

Dang good price from MTO for that 9 footer from TI....I need to get creative and find the $$ for one of those.

Split grips is all a matter of preference. They can usually be tapered to be more comfortable in hand. It's also easier to slide the rod under your arm, but there isn't any padding between the blank and your flesh. I use split grip rods and like them, others prefer full grips.

Couple ounces lighter. Wanna try one, long day casting probably makes a difference!

I don't have a spilt grip and don't think I will - can't imagine it would feel all that great tucked under the arm against the ribs - at least the 1.25 inch cork is a little padding and a bit more of a buffer.

Then again I just keep adding more and more "natural" padding to my ribs. ;-) so maybe it wont be that bad. Lol

I have a couple Split Grip rods and like them for two handed casting of the bigger stuff.....the ball on the end makes a nice grab point for hucking over the shoulder

Shoot2Kill, As stated, preference. I did not like the split grips at all after I tried one for about 5 minutes. Then during my testing of my new Tackle Industries rods I had to use one for a few days in Canada just to test the durability and overall "feel" to make sure I was making them correctly. LOVE split grip rods now. During my testing I did change my exposed blank diameter and also tapered the cork grips a little more than the original design. Have gotten some great feedback on the rods since I came out with them about 18 months ago. email me if you have anymore questions. [email protected] Happy to help.

if there anything like his other rods you wont be disappointed trust me. I have two of his rods and looking to buy another before summers end just dont know which one. And on top of his great rods check out his lures and when your done with that a great big thank you is the last words he will say. I also forgot to mention his guarantee isnt just words its the truth!

I can't imagine casting any ski bait one handed... Or maybe I'm just a pu$$. I have two or three split grips and and a bunch that aren't and to be honest, other than when I grab the rod I don't notice the difference. I do dig the telescoping part of the design. Much better for storage. Not totally sure about why a 12 inch VS 18 inch handle on the other rods though. IMO the 12 inch handle is just to short to get any leverage when casting. I do like the think handles though - nice and comfy. I have a TE on the 9 foot MH and I'm pretty sure the Whopper Plopper I casted this AM is still airborne!!! I just need to break the cherry on my new TI rods and I'll be much happier...

Basically on my removable handle rods the short 12" handle is for trolling rigs and the 18" screw in handle is for casting. I am actually phasing out the removable handle rods for the telescopic design. Nothing wrong with them, just the room it take sot inventory rods is huge! I could easily build another warehouse just for my rods but the kids and wife gotta eat Since these rods were my way of having a trolling rod I will now be building a new carbon/glass hybrid rod in 8' with 14" EVA handles and all metal oversizes guides for use as a true trolling rod. Hope to get that rod out late this year or early in 2012. Takes time to properly stress test it. I did have a lot of guys take out my rods last year in some very cold situations for trolling and not one broke so I was very pleased about that. Lowest temp I know of for trolling was near 12F air temp. The glues and fibers I use currently are made for low temperature situations but I think if I do a carbon/glass mix it will make an even better rod for trolling.

I actually have an idea for reels using synthetic materials for the brakes and titanium gears that woudl be much stronger. Only issue is that titanium is extramly hard to make adn mill gears out of. The material itself is not that expensive for small parts but the manufacturing is the pain. I rough estmated my "TI 400" reel would retail for about $250 or so. Not bad for a reel that would be much more resistant to shelling out like many reels on the market today. Musky guys are hard on equipment so it needs to be made with that abuse in mind. Just need a little more time and budget to get this project going. Got any money?

I have a 9'3" Okuma XH telescopic rod I got early last year. I like it a lot! Priced very well too at $120 from Rollie plus $12 for shipping. Wish I had gotten the 25% off though! That would have been a steal.
