Does anyone else get alot of spray and even a roster tail coming from the large side imaging transducer or is mine mounted too high or to low?

I get a bit more than I figured I should.

I also lose my bottom reading at approx 20mph so I am sure it has to be moved a bit to read at all speeds and lose the bit of spray I have now.

I've got mine working up to 25mph, and it sprays a rooster tail...No big deal, since it is working. I have the parting line of the transducer in line with the bottom of the hull.

Without the plug mine was spraying water everywhere. With the plug in it still kicks water up about 2 feet, but it sprays straight back, as opposed to up and into the spill pan before I put the plug in.

Mine works to 39mph with minimal spray.

I get nothing but static on my screen once I'm above ~10 mph or so. Anyone else have that issue?

Mine works fine at all speeds, now if I could just figure out how to use the darn thing. I have 2 transducer one for high speed and one for the SI.

Really?? Most I've heard is 10mph. Are you seeing fish / weeds / bottom changes at that speed??

At full throttle you will only notice very large pieces of structure like a rock bar. You may be able to detect a muck to sand transition but you do get a bit of motor noise and small objects are passed to quickly to leave any detail on the screen.

When i'm cruising on the Mn River, i'll set my chart speed to 10, and i can plain at about 15, Like said above, it will still show changes in depth on the side imaging, rock bars, etc, it'll even pick up some trees. If your searching for fish, i'd suggest keeping it under 5mph for best clarity.

There's a little gap in the transducer that water will kick up through. It's just a small piece of rubber that fits that gap. It ships with the newer models. For one that old call Humminbird and if your model needs that plug they'll ship it for free.

If you don't have the plug, just wrap the space with electrical tape. Works the same.

Maybe that is one of those pieces i looked at and said "Eh, must not be important"....I didn't have a manual when i installed my unit.

I'll have to look in the box and see if there is a little piece that fits the transducer to prevent spray.

I'm not sure if I want to go with the SI / DI can any one post pics of how well it works. I just can't bring myself to believe you can see an underwater bridge like the promo add shows. (I've been burned so many times by delicious looking fast food pictures)

I'll link to a post I made last year, with a few screen captures I took from my boat the first couple of times I was out with my side scan / down scan.

I look back at those photos now and realize that I didn't have my display dialed in like I wanted ...... as I've used ss / ds and learned them I've got them adjusted and feel like I'm getting WAY better images now.

I haven't gone over any sunken bridges yet, but I've seem some pretty amazing images on my screens. But more importantly, it's helping me learn what's down there, and do a better job of finding fish and structure. I can say with 100% conviction that I've caught more fish because of my ss / ds.

Even though the images I'm posting are from Lowrance, I've seen some really great images from HB too. Pick the brand you want, they both do a great job.

I've found pilings of branches and old dock frames that were disposed as fish cover on our lake. Never would have seen them. Also there is something that looks like a sunken boat down there too. Bait balls show up, suspended fish. Its awesome.

SI and ipilot too, will live up to its billing. You can't go wrong and will wonder how you fished before.

I have seen old bridge pilings in the river.

I also found a commercial minnow guys trap underwater.

It will find many underwater items one would never find without the SI.

Mine also sprays back but not near the back of the boat.

I guess that's why I have done nothing about it.

Unit works great so I say, it's good for me.
