outlets in the kitchen and gas line

As part of the great kitchen adventure I am putting in two new outlets for a total of 7 at counter height. I thought I read somewhere on here that there is some sort of special outlet required now for childproofing. I just was at Lowes and didn't see anything that impresed me as being much different. Anyone know what the deal is.

Am I required to put GFI's in all these spots? The breaker box I have is way too old to be able to find new GFI style breakers.

Gas stove is replacing the electric stove and I have some ductwork to go over to get the gas 15 feet across the laundry room. Black pipe or flexible 3/8 or 1/2 inch copper with compression fittings? Pipe wouldn't be impossible to do.

Thanks for your time.

Gas line-use 1/2" O.D. soft copper with flared fittings. Stay away from compression fittings on gas lines. You can use a coil of soft copper with a shut-off valve behind the appliance or use one of the flexible lines from the manufacturer.

Although it's likely that you'll need that GFCI outlet to also be listed as Tamper Resistant, in addition to the standard TR outlets you install. Your local code will tell you if your old breaker is required to be replaced with an arc-fault breaker, now that you're upgrading the electrical at the end of the line.

Guess I'm going to have to do some research on the tamper resistant outlets cause I haven't seen anything that looks different to me at HD, Lowes, Menards or FF.

Thanks for the help.

They look the same, it's just that in the two verticle slots if you look closely there are little doors there. The box WILL say either TR or Tamper Resistant. They still sell both since both styles are legal under different circumstances.

Ok, so I went to Menards and bought the GFCI outlets. Of course I managed to buy the wrong color. By in the process of checking I find that they charge $12 for these made by Pass and Seymour. Checking at HD they want $19 and they are made by Leviton. I'm not in favor of spending money needlessly but now I wonder if there is a quality difference that is going to make a difference. Thoughts?

Take this from a guy that works with the stuff. You get what you pay for. Just about everything that we put in is either Hubbel, Leviton, or P&S. They are all good. Don't buy the cheap China stuff.

You can buy cheap GFCIs and they work too, it's just that the more expensive ones have better components inside and grip the plug better. Just for giggles sometime when you are in the big box store, take a cord plug and plug it into the different brand receptacles, you will see what I am talking about.

It would not bother me to put P&S products in my home.
