I was very interested in going it sounds like a fun trip. Then i saw the price tag for the weekend trip and was disappointed. Seems cost prohibitive to me unless someone has input that makes it worth the money.

All things considered, with all the costs factored in and fully guided with transportation and rooms, and meals,...it's very hard to beat.

I know a lot of guys from the Midwest and East who do it and say it's well worth the trip. They go every year and some a couple times every season.

Consider once the deep snow conditions the past few seasons here on our lakes and Devils Lake in particular. The average guy is not close to being prepared for it and would need to road trip with sleds, shacks, or ATV's from all points to get there, resulting in a very costly trip. The Perch Patrol had tracked vehicles so they go anywhere in any snow and know where the bite is on.

I think it is a value rich package for anglers whom wish a trip custom fit to there needs with low hassle and planning.

Ed i certainly wasn't questioning the QUALITY of the experience i was just saying that with the package price plus train fare your looking at $1000.00 for a 3 day trip. Some of us with kids and other things going on cant look at this as an AFFORDABLE option for a trip. Yes it might be a nice trip to save for as a nice treat. Maybe im off base but $300 a day is above what i call affordable.I would like to add that i will at some point take the trip as i know i would enjoy the experience.

From Montrose MN or Minneapolis the train is about $81.60 round trip to Devils Lake.

Guides and meals and all the trimmings including rooms is $233 a day per person based on the 3 day Perch Express Package.

Compared against individual guide rates that is a pretty good deal really. Considering your not flipping the bill also for meals, rooms, and bait, and all the rest.

Just guiding alone would run you $150 or more per person, without any meals, rooms, tips, or extras.

In the end it depends on what you want from a package and how much you want to take on yourself and also pay for rooms?

Ed i don't disagree with any of your points! However im personally not in a position where something like this is affordable. Each person has to determine whats affordable and unfortunately for me its not. Convincing the wife that $1000 bucks for a 3 day fishing trip is a good idea would be a tall order. As much as id love to take the trip it will have to be one of those things that i add to my bucket list and hope that i get to cross it off.

Plus you dont need an out of state license.

The way I would justify the perch patrol thing is like this. If I and some buddies were already planning a trip to Devils lake, looking at accomodations, bringing our gear and such we would spend X amount of dollars.

Now, compare that with the Perch Express dollars, then you can figure out if the price difference is worth it.

Now If I had say $500 to spend on an adventure, I probably wouldnt even be considering going out of state in the first place because of cost of gas alone sucks up almost half of that money.

Knowing a few guys who have done the perch express they have said they would do it again in a heartbeat. These are guys that had all intentions of going there in the first place and decided the cost was worth not having the hassle of hauling your own gear.

The other guys I know that just want some nice accomodations and not spend quite as much just go to LOW.

Stayed at a nice cabin last year a couple miles from the lake with a fish cleaning area and full kitchen and it was only a couple hundred dollars for the weekend.

I also go to LOTW for 3 nites lodging/ 2 full days fishing for around 400 when you figure in my 6 hr drive there and back.. Awesome resort and great fishing as well, I have already booked for next march at this place.. Not knocking the Perch Express as it does sound fun, but i don't have banker's hours and executive wages for a trip like that smile

Yeah - I do an early ice and late ice trip to LOW. I can do both trips easily for less than what one Perch Express trip would cost. We usually leave Sat morning and fish URL lake Sat then head up to Baudette and fish LOW Sun and Mon and drive home on Tue. Fun times up there, great resorts, and you always get fish.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
