The agate hunting has started!

Found these agates yesterday at a gas station. Gotta love landscaping rocks!

The metro has been good to me this year, same with some areas up north. The average size that I am finding has also gotten better as well.

Me and the family went out yesterday and struck agate gold!!! Three large chunks were found amongst numerous quarter sized gems... The largest one is 1.5 pounds!!! Almost didn't grab it as it was hard to see the agate in it but once it got wet the lines came alive... And to boot it was laying next to the curb right where we parked, no where near any rocks so someone must have thrown it for fun or thinking it wasn't an agate like I initially thought myself.

All in all this was our best outing yet since we started agate hunting three years ago. My son found the two he is holding. Mine is the slab where he is only holding one that is rectangular in shape.

Nice! Its hard for a kid not to like rocks .... maybe someday I'll grow up.

I would like to go out to south dakota sometime and look for fairburn agates..

Found a nice chunk stuck in the wall..almost missed it. A nice red whole nodule going almost 12 ounces.

what a great find!! when we were kids[i forgot who found it] we were walking the north shore and found one the size of a baseball. my dad kept it for years. wonder if he still has it. we used to look for agates while we were shorefishing on island lake when the water level was down waiting for a bite. i think he still has a box full of them. good luck.

your's are approaching baseball size [hardball not softball]. those are nice, like i said i dont know if he still has it. i dont think he ever thought of money value in agates, i think he just like to hunt them down. we did too of course but slacked off over the years. this was back in the 60's. i'll be going up the norh shore early this fall and around some of the resevours up around duluth and see if i can get back in the game in between the fishing. good luck.
