I have a couple deep cell batteries on it (black boxes on bottom outside of stand) I have light, dc power outlet, and a small tv (for the games). I know its a little much, to be honest I only hunt in it the week or two after opener and during muzzle season when its cold. I have a couple ladder stands I hunt bow or opening week on further up north. I just always wanted a decked out stand and my dad doesn't like to sit out in the cold liked he used to and It's on his property so if can use it a lot. Also can bring my daughter in it when older so she can enjoy too.

Thanks for all the compliments appreciate it, kinda proud of it took a long time to build it.

Love the stand. I am currently in the planning process of building a 12 by 12 stand. It's for sure an over kill, but seeing how my father just retired and mom will shortly here, I am building it for them. Then down the road I can add another 12 by 12, then two more on the back side of them and a lower level to have a 24 by 24 two story cabin. Bottom for living up stairs for bed rooms and hunting. I am thinking this to be an 8 year project. Nice stand and thanks for the inspiration.

Jay did you screw everything or just use nails? I also see you used a lot of bracing, Did you do this as an over kill or what was your reasoning for it. Also on your steps what did you use under the runners of the steps. I tried this and in three years ended up redoing it all in Tamarac like you would in a house.

Authority,

I did use screws on almost everything I think keeps it together tighter I used big nails on frame work but everything else screws. The braces a lot of overkill but was little wobbly without them. I wanted it to last my lifetime and used as much green treated wood etc as I could. I put posts down 2' or so and cemented them plus ran steel square stock alongside them (had them laying around). The steps have 2+4 screwed under them to the 2+10, my dad built them only cuz neither one of us great at doing them by cutting them the right way smile. It's in an open area and catches wind so I didn't want it to wobble at all it turned out good and solid, I also can stand on roof to bow hunt its hard to shoot a bow through the windows.

Thanks for the info. I am putting a ton of thought into my stand before I build it next spring. The only thing I am hung up on right now is how I want to run the legs, have to keep the expansion in mind. I am debating if I should build it like a deck, use elevators, or do something like you did. Is there anything that you would change with your windows or anything I should watch out for. Thanks for helping me out.

The windows were the hardest deal trying to find a style and size that worked. I didn't want them to slide horizontaly and be in the way to shoot through and also have a big enough opening to shoot through. With a 12+12 you have more room for a bigger window so maybe won't struggle to find them. In retrospect I would make the side windows lower to see critters walking by the stand sides otherwise I haven't come up with other issues I recessed my heater into the wall to keep it out of the way and insulated the floor to keep warmer and absorb noise.

I have been eyeing up some basement style windows that open part way and take a saws all to the stoppers and add some hinges to make them drop windows. I looked at them at home depo and it's only $10 or so mo to get custom sizes made. Are yours double pane windows? I have single in my 6x6 now and they fog up with the heater on. I am thinking of going with 15 high by 30 or so long then have a window or two on it's side to shoot a bow out of. I do like how you have the heater area and will more than likely have one of those also, seems my heater is always in the way. Also kicking around the idea of a false floor to put my heater in and have vents to allow heat to rise. Just not sure how to accomplish that idea yet. Your getting me excited and rearing to get this done but I am waiting to make sure nothing gets missed. An idea I noticed on your stand that you can see through the windows, I was wondering if tinting the windows would be beneficial or not to help keep the interior dark and conceal movement in the blind.

They are double payne and still slightly fog:) I thought about tinting also but its high enough and kinda glares from outside I don't think a deer notices inside my buddy shot a deer 15 yds away last fall and we were talking and moving around before we noticed him walking by. I like the heater placement a lot I use a two burner Mr heater buddy on low and it heats great I bet would do yours also if insulated well. I used styrofoam worked well I got it free so I don't know if would be cheaper than fiberglass or not.

Dang! that thing is nicer than my hunting cabin!

Quick question.

Does anyone know of any product or paint that you can put on plexiglass windows so you cant see in but you can see out?

I just built a box blind and have sliding plexiglass windows. I am not sure if standard window film would work on this because of the flexing...

We put the dark film on the first blind we built, and ended up taking the film off. Over time it got so dusty and dirty that you couldn't see through it if the sun was in just the right place.
