Recommended Posts

Hello, wondering if any of you have used your vexilar for open water and what the outcome is? I would like to get another locater for the boat and have this qualityy fl20 just sitting there doing nothing all summer. If you have used a vex for open water, what transducer did you use? Thanks.

I picked up a trolling motor mount and use my fl-20 or 12 all summer long this way....I was having the same dillema as you last year and thouhgt this was the way to go.....it is nice as I can read depth and tell what the bottom content is using the vex and of coarse I can tell if there is fish below me or not and on calm days it is just like ice fishing. I have also used the hispeed tranducer on the back of the boat and that really works nice if you needed it for a main graph for your boat or a canadian fishing trip

I have ran Vexilar FL units on my bost for close to 30 years. They are the first electronics to go on any of my boats. Then I look to a GPS, and then a graph if needed.

Pick up a Vexilar TK-Kit to fit your needs for your FL-20, either the bow kit or the transomw kit...or my personal choice the shoot through the hull kit.

Get 4-season use from it, let her out to play. They are awsome tools on the boat and very reliable.

Ozzie how did you attach your ducer to the trolling motor mount? I had a junk troller sitting in the garage and took the head and base off. I was going to run my cable through the tube and use my float stopper at the top of the tube to hold it. You have a pick of your setup? As for store500's question... I have used my vex in the boat since I bought it in 06. I like that there is no delay and you get good at reading whats going on down there after staring at it so much. grin I always just used my ice ducer sitting in water in the back of the boat and just turned my gain up as needed. I have upgraded my boat now and it doesn't have as flat of a floor. It is a deep v so the through hull idea is done. Might pickup a used highspeed ducer to be done with it.

Many may not know that Vexilar also has a new neoprene Vexilar Sonar Cover out for the FL series units.

The Vexilar Cover will protect the face of the unit during transport and storage. Fits models FL-12, FL-20 & FL-22HD. Many stores may not have them in stock yet, but one can order direct from Vexilar to get them. Obviously very nice for use in the winter too, excellent protection in the sled against dings. $10

when I purchased the transducer from vexilar it came with zip ties and then I just ran the cord up along the outside shaft of the trolling motor and just left it a little slack for play when pulling the motor in and out of the water.
