Okuma reels?

Hoffer

Question

So, I have been pretty much a Shimano guy. However, was looking at the Okuma brand tonight. I really dont know too much about these?

The one I was looking at was i think called the Trio. It was all black and "looked" really nice.

Just wondering if anyone has some feedback on these other than the Looks smile

Thanks!!

Hoffer

I have a few Okuma Spinning and Line counter reels and they have all performed well for me. I think you get more bang for the buck with okuma than you do Shimano. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another Okuma.

Thanks Northlander!

I wont say where I saw the Okuma at..but it was a major fish/hunt store. Then tonight I found the same model at an online baitshop for 40 bucks less. Turns out to be the same price point as one of my "medium" priced shimanos - so I am going to order one and give it a chance.

Hoffer, Okuma has been around for some time now. They started off as a OEM company and did a spin-off in 1987 to start their own reel company. Prior to that they have and still are building reels for other companys. They are one of the largest reel and reel/parts manufacturing companies in the world.

Thanks Wayne!

I have seen their reels before on larger baitcaster/line counter reels. But hadnt seen their "smaller" regular spinning reels before - I must not have been paying attention - or maybe this shiny new black one just caught my eye.

I am going to give the Trio a try. I have a spinning rod I bought late last Summer on sale that is just sitting in the holder waiting for a good reel!

Deitz

No worries!

I will always be a shimano guy - have been for years. Just thought I would look at one new toy smile

In fact, I was out at the C store about 2 weeks ago - it was when they were having a walleye seminar and the guy from bear facts and fish tails was giving a talk. Anyway, I happened to come accross a Shimano rep who I thought was a employee. He helped me out a lot in the right direction with some downrigging questions as well as planer board questions. Very helpful. He also gave me a good education on the Shimano rods. Like them alot!! That will be next purchase after the reel. So, you didnt lose a Shimano reel guy - you gained a Shimano rod guy smile
