Trailer Paint

CC Hurl

Question

Hi folks, I bought myself a new fish house last year and have no complaints other that the trailer is showing some rust already. It is more of a powder on top the steal and not penitrating the steal yet. I am going to paint it again here in the next two weeks but was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on what would be a good paint and primer to use? I was thinking a brush on would work better as I will be upside down when painting the bottom and maybe I could get it on thicker.

I won't be able to hit the top as the house is sitting on it but I want to paint as much as I can to slow down the rusting issue. Thanks for your time and any tips you may have.

You might want to look at a product called por 15.

This is what I used to do my whole frame and it is everything it claims to be grin A little on the spendy side though. Ace sells a store brand rust stoping paint that I have also had good success with.

I think the key is finding something more resilient than paint itself. I think most paint by itself will do a good job on steel but once the rocks chip the paint, then comes the rust. I have thought of trying the spray on bedliner material on my boat trailer. The bonus would be the non-skid surface but I want white and am not sure if it is even doable in any color but black. Anyone ever try this stuff and do you know if it can be colored?

I painted my boat trailer last year with the spray on bed liner stuff. So far so good. No chips, it covered a couple small dents, and looks kinda cool. The non stick surface is nice but don't walk on it barefoot. It kinda hurts.

As far as colors, I have no clue if you can get anything but black.

I know if you have the pros do it you can get it in different colors. I used to see pick ups with the bed liner color matched to the truck.

EDIT:

Found this...

Q: Does RHINO LININGS come in colors?

A: Yes, Rhino Linings can be sprayed in virtually any color you'd like. For maximum UV protection and long lasting color, we recommend our SolarMax product, which has the color built right into the chemistry. To find out more, please contact a dealer near you. Rhino Linings can be custom pigmented to match your color specifications.
