Combo unit recommendations

I want to get a 5" combo locator/GPS unit. I want one that will allow me to use Lakemaster & Navionics chips, but I need the zoom to go down as close as possible, like 20ft.

I bought a Humminbird 788ci on clearance and a v2 Lakemaster chip at the Sportshow. I asked Lakemaster via email last week and they said the zoom will be 50ft and somewhat blurry at that level on that unit. Will the Navionics chip go down to 20ft in the 788ci?

So do I return both and get something else? What about a Lowrance HDS5, or Elite 5? Does Lakemaster, or Navioncs zoom closer than 50ft in those units?

I prefer the Lakemaster chips, but if Navionics will zoom closer in one unit over the other, that's what I want.

50 feet on the HDS but it's not blurry and IMO way to close when working structure. I normaly run mine at 100' when casting and out to 500 or so whn running on familiar waters more than that on waters I don't know. HDS and HB will take both chips but with LM their chips are brand specific.

well i have that unit with a navionics chip and it will actulally zoom to 10 feet but in all honesty i dont see the need to ever zoom in that close, 50 to 100 being as close as ive ever needed, you need to see where you going/whats coming up.so to answer your question navionics does zoom in to 20 feet. what do you mean by gets blurry? what gets blurry?

i was in my driveway and could scroll over to priorlake and zoomin on the lake to under 20foot with no blurryness?word? at all.

any way if you want to unload that unit let me know im interested!

mike.

My bad. I was thinking my H2Oc with my Lakemaster zoomed to 20 feet, but after another look tonight it is .02 mile, or about 106 feet, which is just fine for me.

Here is what Lakemaster said:

You can zoom down to 50 feet on screen. The image does get a little

degraded at that level. The best zoom range with crystal clear image is

100 feet in scale on screen.

Sorry Mike, I'm keeping it now smile
