Catfish Seminar at Thorne Bros, April 27

Just a heads up that Chris Hanson will be talking about Flathead Catfishing at Thorne Bros on April 27th at 7 p.m.

For anyone lurking or members that are new to the sport, this would be a great night to attend. Chris will cover gear, technique, locations, bait, and more. Even if you're seasoned and want to attend, it'll get the catfish juices flowing or at the least you can heckle Chris. It's worth heading up to Thorne to see the new store and check things out...you can marvel at how expensive it is to catch muskies that are smaller than flatheads. grin In all seriousness, it's a good time, a good speaker, and a neat store. Chris can answer questions on anything from catfish to his other pursuits like muskies and his recent efforts in the world of competitive walleye fishing. Thorne also gives discounts on seminar nights.

Thorne has been expanding their product line since moving into the new store and wants to make sure they have the catfisherman covered. They'll also be a great place to get bait as well. Last year they carried nice plump creek chubs and this year they are going to offer bullheads.

Good luck Chris!

Musky Mayhem Hurricane.....next flathead secret weapon smile Kudos to them for expanding to other species of fishing equipment, and kudos to them for having every musky lure in every color possible

Hanson is a cool speaker. He has that voice which just rolls. grin Should be a good event and Hanson is a good jawer and has put on some good seminars in the past as I have heard. I have not caught one with Hanson yet (missed him by minutes 3 or 4 years back at the PGT), but have been to ones where Matt and the guys throw down some good info. As a matter of fact I have not even made it over to the new location yet. Might be a good reason to do so. Thanks Scott for the heads up and honestly it is a needed move for a premier sporting good location getting the real cat gear. Really not many options out their and what would be the risk of running an Isle of good catting gear? I think there just might be a group of wonders looking for a new Pilgrimage. wink

I do not think Hanson needs any luck wishes. grin

This is a good opportunity for those that want to learn a little more about the finer details of cattin (if there is such a thing) smile

It's one thing to ask a question here and get 20 answers, but its another to actually be able to see some stuff first hand and have a one on one interaction with someone who has spent quite a few hours on the river.

Heck the guy has a technique named after him after all. Be sure to ask him about Hansoning it. grin

Nice to see Thorne and Chris doing this!

LoL. Those were the days when easy liven had been forgiven and Hanson was houseless and puppied up. grin or maybe that was the Hanson theory? Who knows. I will do some digging. I think I may just have some Hanson-in-Action footage when in speech mode. He takes speaking to a new level, almost in a way as what the "jam" session is to the crowd at an Almond Brothers concert. grin Always good though. ;)(:

Appreciate all the comments guys... although I'm not quite sure how to interpret some of them. LOL!

So this Wednesday is the big day for the Flathead Catfish seminar at Thorne Bros.

I'll cover a variety of topics related to Flathead Catfishing and of course will be open to question and answer. If you are interested in getting hooked on this type of fishing, and I mean hooked, come learn. If you consider yourself a newcomer to the sport who has a few fish under the belt, I know I can help you get more. If you are stuck in a rut, I think I can help there as well.

I went through a big learning curve when I got into the sport and remember many of the lessons I learned and advice that was shared with me. I think I can relay that info in a manner that is easy to understand.

I'll be at the store earlier as well drooling over the racks of musky baits if you want to hit me up one on one.

Hope to see many of you there!

Only reason I can see to be drooling over the musky baits is if you want to catch some skis for cutbait. Or maybe baby skis for live riggin flatties?

Have fun Chris. I will be out of town all week for work, otherwise I think I'd prolly have to come check it out.

Pretty decent seminar, and a good turn out! Chris did a good job of covering all the basics! I think after the seminar a noobie could go out and have the potential to actually catch a Flathead!

I could have lived without seeing that yelllow CFS rod......Might have to make a phone call or two and add that one to the growing collection! grin

Nice to meet ya Chris!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
