If you're not looking for a specific name brand, your best bet is going to be to go to FF, Sears or a Wally World type place. There are only a handful of battery manufacturers that make deep cycle marine batteries. Most big chain stores sell lots of them and they are all pretty much the same, you don't want one that's been sitting on the shelf too long. Check the date of manufacture and get as big as you can get away with. Make sure you keep your receipt.

The price difference between a generic 29 group deep cycle at FF and interstate 29 group is about $35.

Right now GM have Interstates with a $20 M-I-R. At that price they're realy on par with everything else I've looked at.

East Penn Mfg = B+ Extreme ($79.99) and FF Resolute ($69.99) are on sale or have rebates as well.

Walmart has EverStart ($75.00) and Maxx29 ($85)

Sams Club has Energizer ($75)

Sears has Diehard ($135)

All 27 series are in the $70-$100 range except Sears

Interstate SRM-29 for $99, hard to beat for the capacity you get out of the battery. 210 min at 25 amps, most others (Batteries Plus, FF, ect) are lower than that. Batteries plus/FF (series 31) are only 185 min at 25 amps.

At the end of windy day, or a day on the river, the difference in performance is priceless, IMO.

Taken care of, they'll pay for themselves over the long haul. Not taken care, go with the cheapest ones....The best battery is only as good as how it's maintained.....

Have any of you guys tried the solar power maintainers for your trolling motors? You can get them at places like Northern Tool for around $25. They don't charge the battery, just help maintain it. I've never tried one, but my uncle swears by his and claims if he starts with a full battery he can troll all day and it never gets below half-charge.

Maybe a good Father's Day present...

311Hemi - I'm in the market for 3 of these, are they still available at that price? Where?

thanks!

Capra's in Blaine. I bought mine in Feb, but they said that was their normal price on them at the time.

Over the years I have purchased batteries from batteries plus, Wally world, l and m etc. I highly recommend spending a few extra bucks on the interstate. There is nothing worse than having your battery [PoorWordUsage] out on the water. It' happened to me more than a few time before I purchased the interstates.

I have a 70'lb thrust Minnkota and I went through (27 series) Trojans once a year. (So $200 a year) I finally broke down and bought Optima's (yes I broke the bank at $250 each) but 4 years later and I still have them and they are still good. If I kept going with Trojans I would be in the hole $300.

Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase.
